Which whisky are you drinking and why someone else might enjoy it?

I know that lowland malts are not to everyone’s taste, but this now rare and precious remaining drop of Bladnoch has been a favourite since we found it whilst walking in Dumfries and Galloway back in the 80s. Distillery bounces in and out of mothballs. Such a shame.

It was open with a very smart new Cafe and Visitor Centre last November when we were in the area.

That news has just made my Christmas :christmas_tree:. Thank you.

Bladnoch used to be a hugely charming, quite ramshackle little distillery knocking out beautiful whisky. Interesting history. Yes it certainly did bounce in and out of mothballs. It was almost lost for good by being converted into holiday homes in the 90’s but it was brought back from the brink. It was most recently bought over by an Australian tycoon who has pushed it way upmarket into the premium bracket and releasing what are frankly woefully overpriced bottlings.

Slightly off topic but it does involve Laphroaig.
As winter encroaches I made a cake this week; normally, I use a bog standard whisky to soak some fruit and bran, but my eyes were not sharp and I picked up the wrong bottle. Two days later, the cake has a peaty flavour that’s quite moorish.

It makes very good whisky marmalade too!

Lovely whisky, I still have a sealed Flora and Fauna bottling, bought in Dumfries and Galloway on one of the occasions when the distillery was closed down, I’ve seen rare whisky sellers asking circa £200.

Sadly it’s not the size of a wedding cake …

I should have bought a case back in the day. Better investment than most that I’ve made. Still, I’d probably have drunk it😛

Maybe 2021 will be the year to open it! Post Cv19 might be reason for celebrating

Yes twenty past eight this evening sounds about right.
Oh you mean year. That might be more of a challenge.

I lived in a house less than 100yds away from the distillery for a while, somehow did not get there.
Regret it now !

I know I’ve mentioned it in the past, but it’s well worth a reminder to check out Ralfy’s Youtube channel for down to earth, humorous and honest whisky reviews.

He’s a real enthusiast, knows his subject, and discusses malts with none of the pretentiousness of most other reviewers.

My normal single malts are The Balvenie Doublewood and Glen Scotia. However, round about this time of year I always enjoy a whisky mac which has long been a Xmas favourite in our house. Single malts are a bit wasted so I normally buy a blend. I have just picked this up from Waitrose - their No 1 blend for £20 a bottle. I have to say that it is seriously good and I may well switch to this as the ‘house’ whisky

Yup, there can be too much snobbery about blends sometimes. A good blended whisky can be a bl**dy good dram.
