Hi,
does the widget on new Naim iOS app works on your devices? I have the app on iPhone and after updating the app to new look the widget does not work at all. It was useful for quicker volume control. Did Naim resign the widget in new app?
Doesnât work for me either, although the ânext track/pauseâ button does. iPhone 12, everything up-to-date.
Works for me, though I donât use it that often.
Note, that iOS 18 will deprecate âold style widgetsâ, and it does not seem to be updated yet, to all I can tell.
(It still shows in the âlegacyâ section so far. So, it could be, the widget might âdisappearâ in a few weeks, when iOS 18 rolls out.)
Probably a silly question but, what is a Naim app widget? In fact, what is a widget and what does it do for me (or anyone?)
I always think of it as a Naim app. Why is it called a widget?
I may have to correct myself: Iâm sure, it was working a short while back, but today I did not get it to work on 3 i(Pad)OS devices.
All the usual attempts to re-connect/re-sync it to the app or streamer (here: a Nova) are failing.
(I.e. removing/re-adding the widget, closing the app, opening the app via the widget, âŚ)
In general (and roughly), a âwidgetâ is a small element on a Graphical User Interface (GUI), which usually allows interaction with a very narrow and specific purpose in a simple and easily accessible interface.
Today, most major OSs have a framework (or more) for âwidgetsâ and those are usually provided by apps. So, using a widget is a shortcut from working with the full app. Usually for seeing âlive information from the appâ or âusing very common actions related to the appâ.
Specifically, the Naim iOS app provides a âwidgetâ, which you can put into your âToday viewâ on i(Pad)OS. The thing which is âleftâ of the home screen.
I shows âwhatâs playingâ and allows basic controls for volume and play/pause/skipping. (When itâs working, that is.)
To add more: Apple has re-done their widget framework across the last years (not for the first time), and the new widgets are very versatile where you can use them. On the home screen, on the lock screen, on the Today view, even on a Mac, when the app is actually running on a phone.
However, the current Naim iOS widget is still from a former generation, which was more flexible (in content and especially GUI elements / interactions), and currently only lives in the legacy-bottom-area of the Today view.
Thanks for the description.
Although I can swipe to the left of my home screen on my iPhone, I canât find anything Naim or Focal/Naim to add in the list of widgets.
I also canât find any reference to a âTodayâ view.
I think Iâll stick with using the normal app for the time being!
Just tried it on my iPhone 8 - works a treat to my NDX2 - naim App v 7.0.1, system version 3.8.4.5453
Interesting.
Possibly related to iPhone 8 running iOS 16 (not 17), if I researched correctly?
Or something completely different is going on here.
Hm might be. Just tried to add the widget on my iPad, and itâs not even showing as an option
I then borrowed my wifeâs newer iPhone, added the widget, but get the same as @GraemeH
Iâd love it to be updated so it could go on the Lock Screen having it in the page to the left isnât really any quicker than going into the app
I still canât find out how to add a Naim widget to my iPhone 13 iOS 17.6.1 Naim app 7.0.1 (11293)
when logged in, swipe right, then go to the bottom and click the edit button
@GadgetMan thank you - I found it after clicking on âEditâ, then "Customise"and then the + sign next to âNaimâ but it doesnât seem to do anything.
Where should this widget appear and when?
Iâm currently playing music on my NDX2 using the app on my phone but I canât see anything on my iPhone unless I open the app.
I must be missing something I guess.
It works on my IOS 16 phone, but not iOS 17, so does seem like some bug they have introduced in the latest version that only effects ios17
Not work on my iPhone
Did you add the Naim Widget whilst on ios17 or a previous version?
Pfff good question, I really donât know for sure, I think on an earlier version!
Regards Piet
