Interesting, as did I.
Can I ask if you approached Paypal/bank re the refund, or was it out of the blue - so far I’ve just thought my money’s gone as I used debit card…
It would be good to know how to proceed if you’re OK with that.

I put a case in about two weeks before they went belly up. I had emailed them a few times asking for a refund but they didn’t reply so I opened a case with PayPal. PayPal tried contacting them and allowed them until yesterday evening to reply but nobody did so they gave me a refund and payed straight to my bank.
Thank you @Puddlesplasher
I’ll have a look at my PP account and see how to raise a case. Thanks for your help!
I wonder if the fact that WH were still trading at the time of your claim, but have ceased trading now will be a factor…only one way to know, I guess.
Good luck
Another alternative cable supplier is True Signal Audio.
They use to make cables, the Sarum Tuned Array range, for Chord.
They have not marketed much to the UK market, but more US & Asia.
I have their Ultimate Silver DIN-RCA for my NDS. Much improvement over the Hi-Line (not as sensitive either), and a fraction of the price of a SuperLumia, Chord Music etc.
Ignore - have just scrolled through my statements and it was credited on 11th April (date of original txn).
John Lewis are being less helpful. I just got a letter posted 6 days ago giving me 14 days to send a copy of a rejection letter from the liquidators advising me to dispute the transaction with the card company or they’ll deem that I do not want to pursue my claim.
John Lewis credit card? If so, tell them you’re claiming under Section 75 and from them. They’re jointly liable with the retailer for the transaction. They’re just making it difficult for you. Be clear with them it’s a Section 75 claim, under the Consumer Credit Act 1974, not a chargeback.
It is not necessary for the retailer (or the administrator if relevant) to deny your claim first for a S75 claim. To reiterate, the lender is jointly liable.
Good luck
Thank you, that’s really helpful. Yes, it was by credit card. I tried to call to discuss how they were treating the claim, Customer Services tell me that the disputes team don’t have a phone! Or apparently email given they chose to send a letter snail mail.
Do remember that John Lewis have just (a number of months ago) changed the bank providing their Credit Card Services. It may be worthwhile just confirming that you are dealing with the correct provider.
IIRC (or maybe it was just a feeling I had at the time) John Lewis are stepping back a bit in the provision of Credit Card Services and pushing it to their new provider.
Could it because JL CC isn’t actually JL? We had a reason to ditch our JL cards, another story, and found the process behind was HSBC.
Martin
Thanks for the replies. It is indeed the ‘old’, now defunct card I used backed by HSBC. It’s a different customer service number etc. Apologies for the thread drift.
Doesn’t really matter who the provider is - agreed it won’t be JL themselves - sounds like HSBC. But they’re still bound by S75, whoever is providing the credit.
A bit off topic but I received an email on the 10th June from witch hat asking for a review of some phantom jumper cables that I ordered.
E-commerce product and service reviews tend to be automated, timed to be 14 day or 28 days or whatever, post purchase.
Someone maybe needs to switch this off, if it’s no longer appropriate.
I also received an email from Witch Hat on May 26 asking for my impressions on Spectre.
I replied the next day both with my impressions, and also a (further) request for a delivery date for my Morgana interconnect. I received no reply.
At least Amex have refunded the purchase.
That’s and indication on that things went fast and not everyone knew what was going on.
Wow - thanks to all the people posting here and making me aware of Witch Hat ceasing to trade.
Ive pre-ordered a set of Spectre cables in September last year, just filed for a refund with my credit card company, let’s see how this develops.
This is really sad news. I have had good experiences with previous purchases at With Hat cables. Whishing the staff all the best for their future.
Would members please respect and abide by forums rule here; certain cable discussion is fine (i.e. cables that don’t carry DC), other things, such as discussion involving unauthorised modification and servicing of Naim equipment, not fine. Otherwise this thread won’t be here much longer. Thanks.
