Witch Hat Morgana

Could it because JL CC isn’t actually JL? We had a reason to ditch our JL cards, another story, and found the process behind was HSBC.

Thanks for the replies. It is indeed the ‘old’, now defunct card I used backed by HSBC. It’s a different customer service number etc. Apologies for the thread drift.

Doesn’t really matter who the provider is - agreed it won’t be JL themselves - sounds like HSBC. But they’re still bound by S75, whoever is providing the credit.

A bit off topic but I received an email on the 10th June from witch hat asking for a review of some phantom jumper cables that I ordered.:thinking:

E-commerce product and service reviews tend to be automated, timed to be 14 day or 28 days or whatever, post purchase.

Someone maybe needs to switch this off, if it’s no longer appropriate.

I also received an email from Witch Hat on May 26 asking for my impressions on Spectre.

I replied the next day both with my impressions, and also a (further) request for a delivery date for my Morgana interconnect. I received no reply.

At least Amex have refunded the purchase.

That’s and indication on that things went fast and not everyone knew what was going on.

Wow - thanks to all the people posting here and making me aware of Witch Hat ceasing to trade.
Ive pre-ordered a set of Spectre cables in September last year, just filed for a refund with my credit card company, let’s see how this develops.

This is really sad news. I have had good experiences with previous purchases at With Hat cables. Whishing the staff all the best for their future.

Would members please respect and abide by forums rule here; certain cable discussion is fine (i.e. cables that don’t carry DC), other things, such as discussion involving unauthorised modification and servicing of Naim equipment, not fine. Otherwise this thread won’t be here much longer. Thanks.

Looking at Companies House, it’s not the first time it’s happened to companies linked to Witch Hat Servicing Ltd (Witch Hat Limited, Heddon Projects Ltd and Burkean Philosophy Ltd, all liquidated or dissolved in 2018).

Hey Richard,

Will Naim service my entire Olive system? And is there a good way to go about organising this? I looked briefly into it, but it didnt seem obvious. I was very keen to go about this the authorised way. Apologies that this isnt cable related. doing my best to keep things Naim.

Thanks.

Yes. Although CD players will likely only be serviced if already in for repair.

Contact your dealer, tell them what you want to do and they will in turn contact Naim for a RMA number. Once they have that number, your dealer will advise further action.

Speak to a Naim dealer and they can arrange it with the factory.

Alternatively, if you’re in the UK then you have a Naim authorised servicer in Darran at Class A. Darran’s work is to factory standard using factory supplied parts but may well work out as a less expensive option., although there are more items he won’t or cannot service - e.g. Naim tuners, which can only be properly serviced and aligned at the factory.

I emailed WH on the day the news broke. Never got a reply. Poof! Gone like that. Never got Spectre. Never got Morgana. Both ordered in September 2022. I could (should) have gotten the latter but I was trying to save them £ by having them ship one box to the US instead of two. I’ll never do that again. So they sat on my Morgana money, even when they had inventory, and the latest “delay” email I received on May 23 was, “Our engineers are currently awaiting the phono plugs needed for the Morgana source cable on your order. These are due to be with us soon, then your full order can go into production.”

Ouch. I think they benefited a lot from goodwill like this. I suspect it’s why we feel let down so badly now.

I ordered a Morgana interconnect on April 6 but did not receive an email confirmation so I emailed them the next day to confirm the order. Josh replied and offered to combine the Morgana with my existing Spectre order. I declined, and since then I have received the Spectre cable and obtained a refund for the undelivered Morgana.

The biggest disappointment in all this is because of previous experiences we all allowed matters to proceed far longer than we might ordinarily have done.
This good will has resulted, in most cases, customers having exceeded the credit card recharge period of 120 days which means they have no alternative but to proceed with a section 75 claim in order to be reimbursed.

Thank heavens for section 75 and never use a Debit card for anything you can’t walk away with. That’s the advice I always give after 20yrs in the industry.

The goodwill aspect in this thread has always slightly annoyed me. If the business had survived no doubt all would have got their goods but when the business gets in a mess, it gets out of the control of those running it no matter how honest they are. If you feel that you are “helping them out” then alarm bells should start ringing. By all means if you like to help out a small business then carry on but protect yourself.

Can you post your Spectre impressions in this thread?

Certainly. I ordered on Sep 01, 2022 and it was delivered on April 26 this year. The 5m Sceptre run replaced 8m Red Dawn Revision II. My listening is mainly classical, heavily biased towards piano and orchestral piano.

Initial impressions were good. Significant improvements in bass and soundstage. Treble sweeter and clearer (Red Dawn sometimes seemed harsh in this area). Although there were bad days, presumably part of the (not understood by me) burn in period, these have become less frequent.

Overall the cable seems more musical. Some recordings which sounded mediocre on Red Dawn have become much more involving. I think this is because Spectre reveals far more details than did the Red Dawn.

I purchased Spectre partly becuase of the safety net of being able to return it should it not suit me. That safety net obviously disappeared, but is now unimportant since I soon decided that I would keep the Spectres. The Red Dawn is now coiled up and eventually will find a new home
