Your Currently Played Favourite Female Vocalist or Group

Sara Bareilles
Dusty Springfield
Tina Dico - surprised there isn’t more love shown here for her.

Plus all the others mentioned.

@GadgetMan start at the bottom and work your way up it’s the 2’s and 3’s that are far more interesting in this list.

I don’t believe I’ve seen Carly Simon’s name in any of the posts. Surprising, given the age of the majority of respondents! Anyway, I have always enjoyed her music.

She only appeared once, so didn’t make the list

Great summary, GM.

I have very much changed my listening over the past year and listen to a lot more female vocalists, refreshing to see others top ten picks so i thought i’d add mine.
Kate Bush
Alanis Morissette
Florian Cloud de Bounevialle Armstrong (Dido)
Freya Riding
Norah Jones
Holly Cole
Elizabeth Corrin Maurus (Lissie)
Beth Hart
Nelly Furtado
Many others I could list but these are played regularly and looking at others lists there are many more to discover…

Although I forgot to mention them, I’m rather surprised that neither Julia Fordham nor Janis Ian made the list, but the glaring omission surely has to be Billie Holiday.

@catswhiskers can I ask, is your name from the night club in Streatham in the 80’s?

No, in the 80s I was a family man, never ventured anywhere but the Colston Hall.
It came about two ways, one from a conversation about childhood music, the first equipment that I “owned” was a cat’s whisker, or crystal wireless made with my Dad.
Then as in the avatar, we have two rescue cats.

@GadgetMan “Alison Goldfrapp” and “Goldfrapp” are the same thing/person and so should be combined…

Appologies, it’s probably not the only oversight - that takes her to 8 mentions, equal third with Amy

Good thread. I like a lot of female artists it turns out.

I think Hannah Reid is my favourite. Could listen to London grammar on repeat.

Hayleigh Williams either alone or paramore great.

Lots of others I really like but no one mentioned Lapsley.

Check out the album through water - it was one of my favourite of 2020.
