Decades ago, for a few weeks between sale of one house and purchase of another, my wife and I moved into my former childhood bedroom in my parents’ house, effectively as a bedsit. The room was 12ft square, with wardrobes built into the alcoves each side of the chimney breast, tops of the wardrobes about 18” below the 9ft high ceiling. I put my IMF TLS50ii (not insubstantial) speakers on their sides on top of the wardrobes, as it was inconceivable to be without my hifi. I wax surprised at how good it sounded, though being a 1930s semi high level or late night playing was out of the question.
Another unusual hifi placement, and one that was rather wonderful and I wish I could do permanently, was on the occasion of my half century birthday party, when I put my speakers on the patio at the far end of my garden - details here: https://community.naimaudio.com/t/whats-the-best-sounding-system-youve-ever-heard/11188/25
