Hi Lindsay,
Welcome to the dark side of the digital music force with streaming in 2024.
The CDS3 is a tough act to follow.
2025 may well involve a severe downsizing in the number of boxes in our streaming system. How? Well that would be telling, especially as the auditions have yet to take place.
In the meantime, do continue to enjoy the amazing range of music that our streamers can access these days.
Swap out my hicap, nac 202, and nd5 xs2 for a ncs 222 and npx 300. Keep the 250 DR and the Legacy Calibres. Add a turntable. Probably add headphones? And a cd transport?
Having changed all the electronics this year (Streamer, PreAmp+PS and PowerAmp) bar the NDac+PS, I’m thinking about new speakers for next year. My Proac Response 2.5s are coming up to 29 years old and are still utterly gorgeous but I wonder if some D20Rs would be a worthwhile improvement.
For me it’ll be the installation of a dedicated mains and investigation into room treatment along with some other relatively minor optimisations. Otherwise I’m happy with my Atom HE and active speakers setup and see no need to upgrade either of these.
I read somewhere that it pairs very well w naim gears and dCS as a whole system , and with your input, it further boost up my confidence on this pair of speakers that I always show interest in . And my only hurdle now is the room size , and I will check w the dealer on this . Thanks @LindsayM for your input
As I’m still saving into my 2025 hifi fund I can spend the next few months pondering a purchase as I have an end goal in and but no specific order in which to buy the items to complete it
Currently I have cd3.5 with NAC82 & 2 Hicaps with a chrome bumper 250 and its all very nice however am aiming at a 52 and 500 uin the future, hoping to take the first step with one of the two in 2025
I still look at the old NDS and think what a great machine but given the age and serviceability am considering the nDac with transport in the future, will keep the Naim sound signature that I prefer, but that is now possibly in 2026 or beyond
