Your Most Interesting Live Album

Its spiritual cousin?

There’s a reason it says, “Produced by King Crimson… at AIR studios,” on the back cover.

A bit of Swedish music history, Mikael Ramell with band. Two years before Abba broke through with Waterloo, he made the Lp: To You who were highly praised on the Swedish progressive music scene. This is a live recording from 2019 where he reproduces the whole record again for the first time.

For those who like Punk.. A really good live album from the American band Social Distortion :innocent:

The Rory Gallagher BBC Collection box set arrived last week. Are 18 CDs too many? Definitely not - his performances are always energising - he pours so much through his '61 Strat that was bought at auction last week and will soone be on display in Ireland.

A big thumbs-up to Ramones. I saw them several times at their peak, and they were a magnificent live band. It’s Alive captures the mania, the fun, and the band’s limited but perfect chops.

Yes indeed, I was at the “It’s Alive” gig, it was New Years eve, we were in the balcony and it was moving up and down with the pogoing! when we arrived there were hand held flags placed on each seat, that we were directed to wave. Printed on each one was “Gabba Gabba Hay” not Hey!

This my favourite Dylan Thomas recording.

My favourite ever live album. The Ramones were the best band I never saw. I would pay a fortune to be transported back to 1978 and see them play live…

Hi @ChrisG,

Was also at that New Years Eve Ramones gig. Wonderful. I think my mate still has the Gabba Gabba mini banner!

Were you at the 77 Roundhouse gig, support being The Saints and a new up and coming combo “Talking Heads”?

Sadly No. The New Years Eve gig was the first of many times I saw them.
My memory isn’t great but I think the Rezillos & Generation X were the support.
Not quite as good as The Saints & Talking Heads though!!

So many great live albums but this one is a perennial favourite; been playing it a fair bit recently.

Yes it was The Rezillos and Gen X, I remember thinking how lame Gen X seemed!

In general I am not a huge fan of live albums, so I don’t have an awful lot. I suppose that makes it easier to choose my most interesting one, though as always with music it is not necessarily clear cut. Anyway, I have made my choice.

Released originally on vinyl in 1984, this double album presented music recorded at the Marquee club over two nights in November 1983. It is special for me not only because of the excellent music, but also because they were the final gigs with their the. singer, Geoff Mann, and because I was there.

I bought the LPs upon release, later to rip them to CD. In 2012 a “definitive edition” was released on double CD, adding all the remaining tracks that had been played at those two Marquee gigs - six additional tracks - though one, the epic The Collector, which had somehow not been recorded at those gigs was added from a live recording made a couple of weeks.

Live and let live by Twelfth Night

This is a great live album (all be it to a small audience) of an artist about to take the world by storm. Also it’s even better if you can track down disc 2, Elton John 17/11/70.

That’s interesting. I have the Music for Nations release of this album. It’s a gatefold sleeve but there is only 1 record with 6 tracks.

I struggle a bit with live albums. Often the sound quality is lesser and it’s a tossup between the inspired performance live versus the well mixed studio. But this one is great and I’ve been driving the whole house nuts with it.

Picked it up on a double disc vinyl release in great condition. When I got round to recording it to the NAS for playback in any room then all hell broke loose. I had it on in the dining area last night while we were eating.
