Your Most Interesting Live Album

This current line up of the band turn back time with the enthusiasm of the brand that is pure Santana.
Sound quality is excellent as is the track list.

I bought today a live Jimi Hendrix Experience album that I had never seen or heard of before - Hollywood Bowl, 18 August 1967.

It’s an official Experience Hendrix release, not a bootleg. A sticker on the front says that it’s “sourced from a newly-discovered two-track soundboard recording”.

The catalogue number is 96588 31551.

I haven’t played it yet, so I can’t comment on the sound quality.

Midnight Oil 20,000 watts RSL

Hi Graham, sound quality is a little muddy in places but for a Hendrix fan this is a must.

The Cure - Entreat a live version of Disintegration recorded at Wembley Arena I believe, must have been late 80s.
A great live album best played loud. Even after all these years it is still a firm favourite that gets plenty of plays.

Thanks for mentioning this. Will check this one out. As it happens, I’m listening to the Cure’s excellent Paris live album whilst browsing through this thread. Happy to see they got a mention!

BB King & Bobby Bland - Together For The First Time…Live
I picked up a vinyl copy from a second hand store years ago, been a favourite since. Now on Qobuz in 192/24 and sounding great still.

I can thoroughly recommend this especially if you’re a Cure fan. Would love to have seen them live.

Possibly interesting for different reasons to many already mentioned, at 71 years old possibly the oldest and being the only performance version including Dylan Thomas a rarity element as well.
From the liner notes the performance was only recorded at the last minute with a single microphone. It’s not hifi, there is background noise, possibly from the tape machine(?), but there is atmosphere, a clarity of diction.
I got the records out to take the picture intending to listen to one side to confirm my recollections, then ended listening to all four sides!

Slade Alive from 1972.

Recorded at Command Studios in London in front of a fan club audience it oozes atmosphere. It is easy to imagine being in an intimate pub venue with sticky floors and the heady stink of cigarette smoke, ale and armpits. The band were absolutely killing it for this album, which I think is possibly the best live album of them all.

There is a bigger set now under the same title that includes the amazing Reading 80 festival performance when they stood in at the last minute for Ozzy Osbourne and absolutely blew everybody away. It’s quite brilliant. I can remember listening to it on the Friday Rock Show with the late Tommy Vance and just marvelling at the energy. Quite brilliant…
