I wonder if Rolex should feel flattered that this gruesome object is so obviously inspired by their case design?
yes its called tackishit
It is insubstantial but well put together. Everything fits and there are no burrs or tags. The bracelet is generous and the push pins are easy to work with. They have a fixed sleeve in the centre links which puts friction on the pins and holds them tightly. The pins are of decent quality.
It wears comfortably and doesnât look like itâs liable to fall apart, but itâs just some bits of plastic so I donât know how well it will wear in the wild in the medium term.
So minimal,lovely!
I bought this at the end of last year. It was a tough choice between this one or the version with gold numbers. This seemed a bit less dressy and more suitable for everyday wear.
I also bought exactly the same one (late last year) but was torn between it and the green one. Was it you who had (has) the green chrono version?
Yes, I had the green Chrono. When I bought the Chrono I dithered between it and the Automatic 40 and after a while I realised the Automatic would suit me better. I never used the Chrono functions and it seemed a bit fussy so I sold it and bought the 40.
Thanks HH. It was your pics of the chrono that inspired me to look at that particular IWC range.
I decided early on that the automatic 40 was at the limit of my budget. It replaced a 20 year old TAG Heuer quartz, so obviously in a different league.
Welcome back HH. Great to see you posting here again .
Not in my experience.
I specified that the dial was not to be changed under any circumstances. The dealers said I would receive a schedule of work and an estimate at which point I could approve what work could be done. Two months later I get the schedule of work from Rolex and they insisted I change the dial. I opted to have the watch returned without being worked on, at which point it got lost. It eventually turned up four months after I sent it. The dealer sensibly decided to not charge me the ÂŁ200+ charge Rolex wanted for inspecting the watch.
I have almost exactly the same IWC âPortugueseâ watch, but it has two more buttons (for starting and stopping the sweep second hand, when using it as a stopwatch). Mine is about 20 yearsâ old, so yours may be a newer version of the watch with some changes.
I think that the blue numerals are very stylish.
I have posted previously that I would never send my Rolex Milgauss back to Rolex for service because of their extreme interventionist tendencies when servicing older watches.
Hello and welcome back
Yours will be the Chronograph. This is the Automatic 40, introduced in 2020. Itâs the smallest and cheapest Portugieser.
Thanks.
I did post about it much earlier in the thread.
I had bigger expectations of both Rolex and the dealer, neither of whom I would use again.
I eventually took the watch to William Rice who was brilliant.
Ah right, that may well be the case. I donât read up on new watch releases, as the Rolex and IWC that I have will âsee me outâ (as a good friend of mine used to say before - sadly - he died a couple of years back).
Long may he continue - I found his service to be superb when I had a couple of watches serviced.
