Your Watch & Naim

In a slight variation on the theme, here is a picture of the movement out of my Omega Speedmaster - cal 1861, complete with plastic brake. I got it serviced this year and asked them to take a picture of the movement and they did the picture rather nicely. I bought the watch new in 2003 and I have had it serviced probably about 3 times since then.

@biddler66 As far as I’m aware the Rolex Daytona has never had an ETA movement. Well, maybe the odd Far East fake has.

IIRC, Rolex used to use the ETA Valjoux caliber 72 in the Daytona.

Was Valjoux owned by ETA at that time? I can’t find a date for that.

I bought my basic Stainless Steel GMT back in 99. Paid £1608, even though list was £2008. I hardly wear these days since getting the Apple Watch (which is great). I’ll keep hold of it though as I’ve heard values are going up and also it’s still there to be worn now and again on special occasions. I can go weeks & months completely forgetting I even own it!

Quadrupled in value. Pepsi? Pics or it didn’t happen.

Yeah, I had the original bezel replaced when it was serviced as the red side faded. Was told by watch fan that collectors prefer them as original as possible. How was I to know?! :astonished:

Back in ‘88 I bought a Rolex GMT Master II “Fat Lady” new for about 1,200 pounds, and sold it a few months ago here in the US for $8,200 dollars. Bought the new Tudor GMT above for $3,950 and pocketed the difference. Not bad for a 30 year-old watch!

It happened! :grinning:

Seems such a long time ago now though…:frowning:

Very nice Dan. I was pretty annoyed when Rolex removed the Green sticker from mine when I had it serviced.

My battle scarred 1991 Seiko Lady’s diving watch, wrist too small for anything else. I get attached to things and try too keep them as long as possible (the wife is happy). The relic still gets a compliment now and then, probably just out of sheer pity…

Perhaps not really what this thread is aboutn, but I had an observation.
I own a few mechanical watches, vintage (Zenith, Longines, Vostok), modern (Zenith, Breitling, Vostok, Strela, Seagull, Seiko & Poljot), Swiss (Zenith, Breitling & Longines), Asian (Seiko, Seagull), some cheap, some expensive. The interesting thing is that I enjoy wearing all of them.

I feel this is very different from how I look at my HiFi. I would never decide to listen to a cheaper system I happened to own as well. (And, as it happens my Seiko 5 which is far from the most expensive, performs the best). Neither do I feel a need to upgrade because of that, they all have their place. I think this is kind of nice.

My G-Shock must be at least 15 years old now but rarely gets worn. I’ve had plenty of use out of it though - it’s on it’s 4th battery and most likely last battery as the battery holder isn’t in great shape. It’s seriously tough bit of kit though and a present from the then girlfriend (now wife) so I’ll keep it for good whether it’s working or not.

Love the Apple watch but they’ll never see 15 years of use like the G-Shock.

It’s worn everyday & has become an extension of the phone. The technology in these things like ECG is incredible.

Beautiful GMT, I’ve always been enamored with the snowflake hands, it’s a nice vintage homage to Tudor’s earliest models that distinctly separates the brand. My next watch will be the Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight (or a s/h 282), I can’t decide!

There’ a mod culture with the Seiko divers, people sell a variety of hands, chapter rings, customized dials, cases and bezels all to make your own. Or buy from a specialist who will assemble you a new Seiko diver based on the configuration you want, and I’ve seen some really electic models that were really cool.

Beautiful movement, Speedy’s really hold their value, the 42mm is a little large for me so I’m looking at the Speedmaster FOIS s/h, as it’s 39mm and I like the arrow shaped hands. They’re so many variations of this model like the Speedy Tuesday that will keep the collector interested for a lot mg time.

Today’s watch is a Seiko Sportsmatic Deluxe. The day of the week in Japenese is pretty cool.
