500 to 500DR?

Tonight I’ve had a slight argument with Vicki, sulking I’m now banished to the kids playroom…

Hang on we have CB Nait 2 / ND5XS2 into SBLs… need to organise more arguments

There’s a rather big thump/static noise from the speakers when I turn on/off my 500 (non DR) causing my speaker cones to do some disco which I’m not used to having heard or seen when having 250DR/300DR. On those it was much softer. Normal?

Not sure I understand what you mean. Turning on a Naim power amp always results in a “loud thump”, which I’m sure speakers don’t really appreciate in the long run. The off from the 300 non DR is a pop followed by a pop which I assume are the capacitors discharging at different times. With my chrome bumper amp I get a single pop. Not sure what you mean by a static noise at switch on/off

That’s what I mean  It’s just more on my 500 than on my former naim amps. However it’s also a different beast to power up :zap:

The switch-on pop is a lot quieter on the NAP500DR than the NAP500. Actually I reckon this was the most noticeable effect of the DR upgrade.

Perfectly normal. Both switch on and switch off sounds with a 500 vs 500DR are completely different - switch on is almost silent on the DR version.

The DR upgrade was ridiculously expensive and decided against it and glad in the end that I just did the service and recap. I do find it annoying shoving that up the speakers at switch on/off everytime

Funnily enough, my Naim Nait (original version) gives a similar pop at switch on and off as the pre-DR NAP500.

The DReam is getting DangeRously close to becoming reality :grimacing:

Do it, its a great amp.

That much better than a 500 tho…?

No @Stu299 it’s far too early😉
You are still in the honeymoon phase with the non DR. 500
As you quite rightly said DangeRous

Seriously, I should have said source first ……

Yup and you should know

Richard is getting it fully serviced at Naim first

Belts and braces I know

Excited. Hope it’s not too long

You’ve changed your tune :joy:

Nobody can deny that is the biggest bang for the buck. You will be in agony wondering is my single 555PS NDS good enough. Go on admit it did cross your mind on the other thread :joy:

Crikey you don’t waste much time do you

Never. It is criminal to waste time or at least it should be😂

It is ok to waste money though as long as it does not bring you to a financially ruined state and all other higher priorities have been taken care of and as long as you truly appreciate what you have. The latter IMHO is something that escapes us all if we are honest about it

And yeah I have wondered. But you’re off the mark this time I’m afraid. An ND555 comes first :sunglasses:

See above. I hope you truly enjoy them Stu. With truly great music, I think you can enjoy it with less, but very true the top kit really helps connect much better as long as setup is done as best as one can and we are not just feeding an addiction to always have the best and lose sight of the principal objective
