My all time favourite in this category. The original 1961 controversial painting ‘Annunciation’ from Mati Klarwein that became widely known as the cover from Santana’s Abraxas in '77.
Yes, of course, some art used on albums started life quite independently, even before records existed
Of the age where, in times long past, bedroom walls (uni. dorm room in my case) were plastered with Roger Dean I was very surprised it got to the 39th post before any of his album covers were mentioned!
oh, and the work of Storm Thorgerson
Peter Gabriel - New Blood
(Apparently it’s an image of a single blood cell on the tip of a needle under an electron microscope).
Minimalist and beautiful
I’ve always thought that this was a terrible cover. Don’t know what they were thinking. Relevant to the music??. Like the music though.
I suppose one person’s Artistic is another person’s Complete B*llocks. Lol.
Not a mobile phone in sight! Imagine if it were a contemporary cover.
I prefer the artwork for Script and Fugazi to be honest, but Misplaced Childhood was presumably Marillion’s most commercial and successful Fish era offering.
Close enough…
I assume the ‘object’ is meant to have some kind of ‘presence’.
As in some kind of alien ‘item’ maybe?
It’s one of those simple covers that actually makes you think deeper along the lines of ‘what on earth is that thing?’.
Simple and utterly iconic.
Great choice. I have it.
