Details, details! I’ve been lucky enough to at least see and hear what you’re dealing with now so appreciate the excitement and anticipation of enjoyment ahead, a truly inspiring speaker and a joy to the ears (and eyes)!

@Beekeeper2000 - Random question; purely out of interest. The ATC50s appear ‘handed’ given the asymmetric tweeter and midrange positions on the front baffle.

Did you try them with tweeters on the ‘outside’ or does ATC recommend anything specific?

From the ATC manual:

Monitors with an asymmetric (offset) driver array should be positioned such that the
midrange driver and tweeter are inboard

Very good!

I do like a speculative browse through a product manual. Often a step towards a purchase, though sadly in this case I fear a budget constraint

Incredible looking things. Those, and the PMC monsters run by another forum member, just look like amazing things. Enjoy

Hilarious you :joy:
Nothing like a bit of nerdy user-manual perusal :see_no_evil:

Is burr magnolia special order or available from the standard alternatives?

Burr magnolia is effectively a premium veneer, with high gloss finish being a further cost option available on ATC’s Classic series (not the entry, ie SCM40A).

It’s a special order finish I’m afraid, that adds significant cost. ATC basically send these cabinets to a cabinet-maker and they’re hand-polished over a number of weeks. It’s very Labour-intensive. Think of a ‘Roulette wheel’ in the casino, that’s the kind of polishing process that goes into these. It’s hard to show on a photo what they look like to the naked eye.

One of the most beautiful speakers I’ve ever seen

Since your initial post @Beekeeper2000 I’ve become obsessed with that finish🤪

So much so I’ve hatched a cunning plan🤔

Mrs CTJ is happy with the look and sound of our new active 40’s (as am I) so around this time next year I should have funds available for an upgrade to a speaker I can order with the same finish👍🏻

Out of interest from order how long did they take to be delivered?

Hahaha! That’s a great plan!
Well ironically when I had the 50’s on demo Mrs.Beekeeper firstly commented “oh more speakers then?” :grinning: before telling me she liked them more than the 40’s! There was no acoustic audition involved, just a view in how they looked! So I knew I was on a winner if I could finance them
I ordered these back in February and the lead time was about 8-10 weeks. ATC send the cabinets away for the high gloss which takes about 2-3 weeks. They’re a work of art and a conversation piece. Very difficult to show them off on photos but to the naked eye they are amazing!
