Thanks Bruss. When I got my (then new) car 6 years ago, I was excited as it had DAB so I could listen to BBC6. To say I was, and generally remain, disappointed is an understatement! I don’t understand, as has been expressed no here so often by other as well, why the BBC can’t “get it” and understand that the inane, self-focussed ramblings of the majority of their presenters are of zero interest to anyone but themselves?
By way of parallel, I’m a golfer of very average ability. There is nothing more boring than listening to other golfers rambling on about “their” golf / what shot they played / should have played etc. Any other golfers on this forum may understand precisely what I mean and any none-golfers will also get it as they too are frequent targets for the self-focussed and uninteresting commentary! It’s exactly like that with the BBC.
That is why I don’t listen to the BBC and why RP and now Timewarp Ireland attract listeners.
Also fifty channels but no Jazz and no blues. Please don’t set me off again !
It seems that most of the MP3/AAC stations are now carrying metadata.
I have collected a number of flac stations but recently noticed that of these only the four Radio Paradise and five (sponsored) Jazz Groove flac channels have metadata.
Stevesky has indicated the difficulties involved in regards to the Naim flac channels.
Have users found any other flac stations with metadata?
Update: Radio BluesFlac is also now carrying metadata.
I notice Radio Paradise include the album name as well as the track title on their flac stream - or maybe I am only seeing this now! Anyway it is a welcome addition.
BTW Paul, that station PureClassix Radio that you recommended is excellent. Mostly mainstream tunes but most enjoyable and terrific sound quality - thanks for that.
I posted the following in response to a request for Blues Channels on another thread and thought it may be of interest to this stream,
The stations in my Blues playlist are:-
After the threats, Bauer/Planet Radio seem to be no longer available (unless you use their app)
Jazz FM / Scala Radio / Absolute classic rock and other stations / Planet Rock are all gone.
Only Absolute Radio 00s and GHR are currently still working (probably an error).
I have removed them from my list.
Good alternatives (many in flac *) are:-
Radio Paradise (4 stations) *
TimeWarp
PureClassix *
Hi On Line Radio flac mix * (and other stations)
SuperStereo (6 stations) *
EasyRadio *
Zenith Classic Rock
Radio Caroline
Boom Radio
JB Radio2 *
Venice Classic Radio (2 stations)
WRTI Classical
The Jazz Groove (2 stations)
WRTI Jazz
Jazz 24/7 (WGBH)
Aardvark Blues FM
Houston Blues Radio
Radio BluesFlac * (working again)
When I perform a search on the Naim app for Jazz 24, it returns no results. Does it no longer exist? Or do you know if it is not available on Naim Audio streamers?
I do not have a Naim streamer but I know (from a previous life) that the base vTuner database search is poor/inflexible/unforgiving.
I looked for “PureClassix” (as the station refers to itself) a while ago but not found as they had it as “Pure Classix”. Wrote and told them but still unchanged, also have suggested they improve their search.
Perhaps @Stevesky would like to comment on the Naim implementation.
