I think badges are a good idea as there is a risk of missing those you would like to meet, surely the main reason for such a bash.
That sounds like a plan.
Maybe make the bigger get together on a separate day to the factory tour, possibly on licensed premises near where you live. This would be less tiring for you.
Anyway, plenty of time for that. Now you need to focus on getting through your treatment. Once you are through that, I’m sure you will be ready for a pint or two with your forumite mates.
Hic!
My thoughts are with you through this bloody treatment.
@Dan_M, I only discovered this thread by glancing at HH’s post in System Pics. It might be worth you posting the existence of this thread in System Pics, as I suspect there could be others like me where this has passed them by.
There will be quite a few of us who will want to come to the bigger pub bash who would like to meet you, buy you a pint and shoot the breeze.
We better be careful. If we all end up buying Dan a pint….
I’m just as happy letting him buy me a pint…
Hi @Dan_M
Here’s my main setup. Atom HE, hicap dr, snaxo bmr and 2x nap 200. It drives Ovator 600’s. Nap 200’s were serviced.
I bought the Atom HE when it was just released to have a safe haven in my 4 kid family. The Ovators were bought because they are very solid so that they would survive the kids and cats. Previous loudspeakers had replaced tweeters (twice) because some kid like to push them in.
It’s great stuff, but not used as much as the av setup and the Telly / Xbox. I’ll post an photo of that somewhere in the coming days.
Erm, yeah. Have you got your threads mixed up, guy?
Nope, it was addressed to Dan.
This is dans thread - so all in here … all for one!
Hi Nigel, Richard asked us to take it into a lounge forum, so @MikeD very kindly set things up!
Yes, I thought that the System Pics 2024 offered more exposure. But this is how it is!
Been a rough weekend. Tiredness kicked in big time, aches and swelling to legs, continued cold and cough! What was I expecting?
Feel like I have been hit by a truck .
Hopefully, I will be better tomorrow as intend to go to work. I can go in for shorter day or take day off as necessary.
It’s a great set up @Ardbeg10y and offers practicality with the kids.
I have always made sure my 4 kids don’t even touch my system. They are pretty good. Damaging tweeters and speakers could cost a fortune.
Keep them well away!
Not the right thing to do in my opinion.
Conferences/meetings I used to attend often involved being introduced to many new people.
When you got into a one to one conversation later it was extremely awkward & embarrassing, to not remember their names. A visible name tag was invaluable in getting conversations going, often creating a more convivial atmosphere.
Initially, I hated wearing a name tag but quickly came to appreciate the advantages of doing so.
Hi Dan,
don’t worry - many of us will look here from now on very frequently. A lot of exposure here. Sorry to hear that you are going through hell. But cyotstatics are killing a lot of cells - and by todays medicine it is a lot more targeted, but there is still some of the good cells that are hurt.
And the cancer cells will be hurt - these bastards!
Keep up - my thoughts are directed to you
Keep focusing on those speakers @drago. It’s very interesting to see how you are getting on!
Hi Dan,
I feel guilty that I have not sent you my ‘best wishes’ previously. This is solely because ‘best wishes’ seems so inadequate in this instance.
My fit & healthy wife died in, for me, a horrific 10 minutes last August from a severe brain haemorrhage. Normal one moment, gone 10 minutes later with no warning at all.
I thought that this was probably the worse thing that could happen to anyone at the time. She was taken at least 10 to 15 years too early & I was, totally unexpectedly, left to spend the rest of my life alone, having no children & a few family members living 300 miles away.
Then I read your story & realised I needed to count my blessings. Fit & healthy with, possibly, a good few years left in me.
Like you, fate dealt me the unkindest of blows but, after the past few months, I determined, like you, to make the best of a bad situation, display the ‘British stiff upper lip’ & get on with it. Your story & attitude have only served to reinforce my resolve.
Interestingly, my enthusiasm for most of my hobbies has almost gone at the moment (trying to play guitar, photography being amongst them) & I am hoping that it will return in due course to fill the empty times that lie ahead. However, the one thing that has given me real comfort is my Hi-Fi/music. I have enjoyed my music for the past 63 years (since mum & dad bought me a battery powered record player for Christmas 1960 when I was 5), but probably never more so than now. This has been reinforced by posting on this forum & engaging in general Hi-Fi discussion as well as specific talk about my personal situation & loads of messages of support.
You seem to be deriving as much pleasure as I do from it & I am certain, in the tough times in front of you, it will provide even more comfort to you than you are expecting it to. I can understand what the forums support has meant to you from my own experience.
I will therefore end this longish post where I started, by sending you my ‘very best wishes’ in the hope you will appreciate the full sentiments behind them.
As with so many here, behind you all the way.
I will follow both - @Dan_M
You are such a nice guy. I believe that this matters in any situation of life.
Yes, I can’t imagine how sh!t it must be, but I know you are strong.
Hang on in there mate, there is a pint from me with your name on it in about 18 weeks.
I am so sorry about the loss of your wife. And it is very recent too. Give yourself space and time to recover.
Let’s enjoy life and our systems and this forum.
You’re going through the grieving process and it takes time.
Take it one day at a time. Just remember every day alive is a good day!
I’m trying Dan, but on days you’ve just watched your football team loose 5-2 to Liverpool in the cup, it’s bloody difficult!
Seriously, it’s a good philosophy & helps to make life bearable at times when you feel that you don’t have a lot going for you.
Best wishes to you,
My money is on the day off man!
