Disabling Google Cast

Hi Folks,

Now that Qobuz Connect is up and running, I’d like to disable Google Cast on my 4 naim streamers. Currently each device appears twice in the device list on the Qobuz app; once for Qobuz Connect and once for Google Cast.

If I go to my google account via the website I don’t see the devices anywhere to unlink them from my account.

If I go to the Devices section on the Google Home app (android), I see all 4 devices in the ‘Local devices’ section, but I don’t see a way to remove them. When I search for how to do this, I get results saying how to remove it (press and hold tile, or go to settings and remove), but these options don’t appear for me.

If I go to Google Cast in the ‘Settings and Accounts’ section of the naim app, it just says ‘Cast is enabled’, but no way to disable it.

Any ideas?

Not a big issue, and I can live with duplicates in the list on Qobuz, but I’m getting frustrated that I can’t figure out how to unlink my naim devices from my google account!

thanks!

You can disable it under inputs in the settings.

Is Chromecast even listed under input settings? Not on my devices. You don’t control Chromecast from the Naim app.

You used to be able to turn it off under Services and Accounts in the Naim app, but that option seems to have vanished.

Best I can think of is a reset, where you say no when asked whether to activate Chromecast.

The Naim streamers all have google tokens assigned to them when they are built; think of it like a MAC address, it’s unique to each device. You can’t remove it.
Just ignore it; a phone will always see it, the same as it will see another WiFi ssid or Bluetooth device “in the air”, and airplay devices appear etc.

Even that doesn’t work. I only know this because I did a factory reset on my NDX2 last week because I changed my wifi setup, and chromecast is still enabled even though I haven’t explicitly enabled it again.

You do have to enable it in the first place by linking it to your google account though. You’d think there would be a way to unlink it from the google side, even if it isn’t via the naim streamer.

If there isn’t then c’est la vie

Oops…Sorry. I thought it was under input settings before. It is now under services & accounts and does n’t have an off switch. Only a usage data switch (that I can’t turn off…).

Hmm I don’t see it in my input list. Is it there on your ND5 XS2?

No, see my reply above. I think it was moved. I clearly remember that is was under input settings and could be turned off. But now it is under services & accounts and can’t be turned off. Sorry for the confusion.

On my devices it’s switched off - but I think to remember, that enabling it is a one way switch, kind of.

Didn’t know that. That’s really invasive.

It’s a chrome device token and otherwise it cannot function. It’s not invasive.

IMO you should be able to shut it down.

I speak as a regular user of the Google Assistant, so I accept the intrusion. I just don’t think one should be forced to do so.

I had to factory default my NSC 222 and not enable it during the setup process.

Hi @Entilzha

There are power user ways to resolve this annoyance

Work out the local IP address of your streamer. Then in a web browser paste this in:
http://192.168.0.2/api/setData?path=settings%3A%2Fgooglecast%2FtosAccepted&role=value&value=%7B%22type%22%3A%22bool_%22%2C%22bool_%22%3Afalse%7D

Change the IP address - in my example it’s 192.168.0.2

It will reply with something like:
{“value”:{“bool_”:false,“type”:“bool_”},“timestamp”:1747471689229}

Restart the product (power cycle) and Chromecast is no more.
To re-enable it go through the app setup wizard to enable it.

Regards

Steve
