Mason mount on his move to Manchester United. How do you Man U supporters feel about the signing and Mount being given the No 7 shirt?
Hi Bob
I wouldnāt have put him at the front of the queue for essential signings - our deficiencies are well known but targets are harder to gain. Having said that, Eriksen cannot be expected to play all season and when he is injured / tired / off form we miss his creativity badly, and donāt seem to have quality alternatives.
That isnāt to imply that I see him as some sort of back up. The #7 indicates he is understandably central to our future planning and he is certainly a quality addition in that area.
Our recent recruitment has signs of better planning (Casimero, Martinez and on his day Antony. Even Sabitizer and Weghorst were good emergency choices.). ETH and his team know who they want. If it wasnāt for FFP restrictions we would all be saying what a great signing Mason is. As we have limited resources to deploy, the question is how much it limits recruitment in other areas. We probably need three summer windows in total to achieve the consistently high standards that will be needed - it is as they say, a āprocessā.
Mount is not a āUnited No. 7ā for gords sake.
Is this just a poor PR stunt ?
The N07 shirt for Man U has actually been a bit of a curse over the past decade or so
Alexis Sanchez, Memphis Depay, Angel Di Maria, Antonio Valencia and even Michael Owen have worn the number 7 shirt without much distinction in fact only Edison Cavani managed to put some pride back into the No7 shirt before embarrassingly being stripped of it for Cristianoās second stint.
Perhaps Mason Mount should have rerquested another shirt number.
If I had to chose between 2 players one saying
No please donāt give me the no. 7 shirt it puts me under unnecessary pressure
or
No. 7 - what a great honour, Iād love to wear it and do justice to it.
Iād know who Iād choose.
Enjoyed watching United last season for the first full season in a long time. I have faith in ETH. Heās building a team.
Looks like being another great premiership season, with a lot of teams being well able to beat another team on their day. If United can get top 4 again and beat a few of the top 6 teams away, that will be progress. You can actually sign too many players in a window but ideally Iād go for 4 and I presume we have 2 already Mount and Onana. Another forward and central defender would be nice but hopefully not absolutely essential for a relatively successful season.
Iām conflicted about Mason Greenwood, I absolutely abhor what he has done (allegedly) and said on tape. I do believe in redemption too though but donāt know what he might need to do to show he deserved a second chance at United. And itās hard to know how much (if at all) the lax attitude in United to discipline under OGS facilitated Masonās fall.
But back enjoying United and actually like most of the team currently, thatās good enough for me.

Iāve seen some nonsense on this thread but the idea that OGS is in some way responsible for Greenwoodās actions is going to take some beating!
Good man, be like that then.
I say how much āif at allā and try to articulate how a culture may affect a young player who finds himself feted as the second coming and is not maturing under an Alex Ferguson type regime.
Facilitate means āmakes easierā rather than being the cause or explanation.
Indeed there is some nonsense on this thread, that we can agree on.

Personally I think MM will do well at United under ETH at Chelsea during his last season he played under too many managers all with different ideas and like Kai Havertz he became a bit of a pantomime villain for the Chelsea supporters I think a fresh start and a new regime will do him good.
Havertz has scored 19 goals in 91 Prem. games (full games, substitutions etc.), an average of a goal every 311 minutes. Iām not surprised the Chelsea fans were disgruntled. For a striker thatās a very poor return. Amazed anyone would buy him.
Kane has an average of a goal every 126 minutes (in a crap Spurs teamā¦ ).
Come on Lego Head, Krankie, Lady Muck and Porn Dwarf ā GET DEXIT DONE!!!
Apparently the medical is done, Sullivan held out for the Ā£100 million to be paid in two payments over two years and because of FFP Arsenal wanted to pay over four not surprisingly the Porn Dwarf won that particular battle and as they say that is that.
We are just waiting for Arsenal to unveil him though I believe he has been given some extra time off but will be going on Arsenalās pre season tour in the US the week after next.
Iām hoping he plays in the Charity Shield against the Cheats as I managed to get tickets.
Arsenal are currently playing FC Nurnberg as part of their pre season training and are currently winning 1-0 with a goal from Bukayo Saka . the best news is that William Saliba is fit and has started.
Moving on the Spuds have made another signing Manor Solomon who whilst injury prone did pretty well on loan at Fulham last season and is a free agent which will make Mr Levy happy and could be a shrewd signing by Impostecoglou.
Just watched the highlights of Arsenalās pre season friendly against Nurnberg of which there where none except Sakaās goal. Lotās of fringe and youth players and a debut from Havertz the highlight of which seems to have been him coming on.
Thatās two friendlies and two 1-1 draws. ARTETA OUT!!!
Wasnāt the highlight Jorginhoās 35 yard (own) goal
I think that was the goalkeepers fault but regardless a bit of comic error.
Bit of lively debate who is under more pressure this season Impostecoglou at the Spuds, Eric āCreepyā Haag at Man U, Pooch at The London Cowboys or Super Mik Arteta at the Arsenal.
And please only well thought out, incisive and grown up piss taking.
Now there is a debate I can enjoy!
I would think Postecoglou because
a) it is Spurs and their recruitment of managers has historically been irrational and their propensity for firing them well evidenced and
b) apart from H and Son (who surely will be better this year) - they havenāt got any decent / fit players!
As an alternative, I would like to suggest Klopp. Another relatively poor season would see him walk but Iām not convinced he still has the passion. Sometimes even the best managers run out of steam at a club and he really relies on the passion to fire up his team.
Grown up piss-taking it is then
Silly comments earlier of courseā¦
Postie is under zero pressure at Spurs. He took over a shambles and has just begun a total rebuild of the club as a whole, clearing out the deadwood and reorganising from the ground upwards so to speak. Lots of players leaving including possibly our star striker. If Spurs finish top 10 next season, the fans may be disappointed but will accept it as part of a long process. We can judge him the season after next.
Sorry Bob, the coach most under pressure, of those you mention, is Arteta. You have just finished 2nd in the league and this summer have spent over 200 millikn spondoolahs (up to now) trying to buy the league. If you donāt finish in the top two and donāt win any trophy, it will be a catastrophic disaster of a season.
I agree with By-tor that Klopp is also under massive-pressure.
