English Premier League Season 2023/24

I wonder what the Hammers are going to do with that £105m? Very easy to waste it (Chelsea, I’m looking at you), and WHU can’t really afford expensive mistakes if they want to improve on their shaky 22/23 PL form.

You’re probably right @Wugged_Woy as City can afford the most expensive lawyers…though I seem to remember a certain ex-prime minister employed one of the most expensive KCs in the country in defending himself before the Parliamentary Privileges Committee and that didn’t work out too well.

Sadly (or not) they are very good, but, miracles are beyond them… :grinning:

An interesting question Mike.

If Tim Steidten is announced as the club’s new technical director tomorrow (and he starts work on Monday), as many are predicting, then he could be our most important signing of the season. The porn dwarf’s record of buying players is abysmal, and the Moyesiah’s is spotty. Steidten’s ability to unearth gems is second to none, which is why he’s nickmaned Der Perlentaucher (the pearl diver).

I’ll be watching with interest, Kev. Not ideal to leave most signings to the last few weeks before the new season. Time is needed to properly integrate and bond before the real action begins, but then a man of Moyes’ immense experience will be well aware of that.

I disagree. I’m not saying Chelsea are nailed on top 4 but having called the disaster that was 22/23 before the season started, without wishing to get all Jedi about it, I have a much better feeling about this one. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re at least in the race for top 4.

In a bit of a twist, I also have a couple of new and very interesting clients who are not unwilling to share a frankly astonishing level of insight into the connections linking various shenanigans in the current transfer market and beyond, which are at the same time both curious and, in short, only slightly short of f***ing barmy conspiracy theories!

However, assuming their seemingly strong level of clarity of thought and direction is even a smidgeon close to reality, then I feel my greater comfort this coming season is well justified! They believe the odds against currently being offered are a little on the generous side.

I actually agree I think you have to many good players and good a manager to not compete and I’m sure old Todd will be flashing the cash in the next month or so.

More good news coming out of the Emirates yesterday. Islington born and bred Ethan Nwaneri committed his future to Arsenal by signing a new deal.

Just watching The Big Match Special, Spurs v Brighton Nov. 77. Near the end of the game, it’s a Brighton throw in. Steve Perryman throws the ball away. Ref. stops the game and makes Perryman go and fetch it again! Like that.

If you have a spare hour and have any love of the game this is a must watch yes there is nothing new here that isn’t already in the public domain but it explains in detail the Uefa charges that saw Manchester City thrown out of the CL for two seasons and the subsequent appeal at CAS.

In short it deals with the fact that sponsorship deals with Etihad and Etisalat worth over £100 million pounds that although where paid through those two companies books and in those two companies names almost all of the funds originated from Manchester City’s owners AUG.

It shows City’s successful attempts to obfuscate evidence and to steer CAS to uphold their appeal against the CL ban. They are employing the same tactics with the current PL charges because they almost certainly know they will be found guilty but will attempt to throw so much confusion and delaying tactics that they will eventually only be found guilty of obstructing the investigation rather than the actual charges.

Firstly though they will attempt to have the whole case thrown out due to the fact that the emails that lead to all of these charges are not admissible because they where obtained illegally by hackers.

What is infuriating and really sad is that Manchester City a club that still attracted crowds of 30,000 to Division 2 matches and have a fanbase as loyal as any club are being dragged through the mud.

Hungarian Dominik Szoboszial to Liverpool for 70 million Euros.

Bob, for Gords sake, stop …

Why, Woy? Would you prefer all this to be swept under the carpet?

Not at all. But he does go on and on and on about it… :grinning:

And on and on.

And on.

Thought I would just check in on the arse anal thread and see what is happening…

Just Bob’s unhealthy obsession about City, as usual.

At the end of the youtube link that Bob just posted, the UK minister says that ‘what we don’t want is clubs buying success’. Quite right !

Now, let’s look at which Premier League club has just spent about 210 million on 3 players (if Julian Timber move goes ahead )… Erm, err, now, who was it ?? Blatantly trying to buy the league title.

Oh dear, Bob. Best to let all this drop.
