There is a similar English expression “to twist the knife”. It means to deliberately do or say something to make someone already injured or feeling bad feel worse. I’m curious to know if it does mean the same in French, and if so what you felt did that, but I feel this would be perpetuating something not beneficial or of interest to anyone else reading the thread so I suggest our exchange should stop here.
The last days I have been testing the Audioquest Cinnamon ethernet cable from switch to Atom. I am amazed how much difference this cable makes compared to a no name ethernet cable that I got for free with some networking device. The sound is much more detailed with better separation and sounding tighter overall. I feel it also brings a room issue to the table as it sounds a bit bright at times compared to the no name cable.
Yesterday evening I have been listening with a few audio friends and regardless the source (ripped CD, TIDAL, Qobuz and even 128mb internet radio) the difference is clear. I don’t understand why this last 1.5 meters make such a difference, but it is a clear difference. Since I am not completely satisfied with the sound I will also audition the Atlas Hyper and Audioquest Vodka. The Cinnamon might move to the Mac Mini -> switch connection.
Possibly because one cable is picking up more RF, or the other cable is blocking RF in some way. It does of course depend on the sensitivity of the streamer/DAC (in your case Atom) to superimposed electrical noise, the electromagnetic environment the cable/network is in, and possibly even other parts of the network.
Selling to Naim dealers can certainly be tricky if all relevant parties communicate quickly and share the serial numbers with the dealer network. Forums can also help but there are a lot of ways to sell hi-fi these days, both domestically and abroad, and it is not uncommon for thieves to already have buyers lined up. The ‘modern’ thief, unfortunately, tends to be fairly well organised.
Thanks for your reasoned and informed post, though having read nearly every post on a thread about how old network switches and ethernet cables enhance the Naim sound, I’m beginning to question where my reality stops and fantasy begins :).
Your friend’s story is both sad and disturbing. I hope the insurance company came through. And yes, it pays to be careful on the interweb (or at least mindful of the small details). Not something most people automatically think about when they connect with others with similar interests.
After testing my AQ Cinnamon cables one final time they again proved to be an obvious weak link in my system. I’ve now moved them on and enjoying my BJC cat 6a loom and cascading poe ciscos. It’s remarkable to me how good my standalone SU with powerline sounds.
It will be exciting to hear about,.when the first listening-impressions begin to appear in the thread.
And also against EnterRegen,.they are in about the same price-category
The Swedish distributors showed this two weeks a go at a audio show in Stockholm. I only heard a one song demo (tune demo) against a netgear switch, but this was really promising. My impression was more lively and better separation of musicians.
Apparently it has a dedicated input for the internet-side and seven other to be used with players and servers etc.
Price was indicated to be 7500 SEK (etherRegen I believe is 8500 here)
Hmm…Another ‘audio grade’ switch. The EE website wasn’t very forthcoming on details so i’m curious as to what makes this switch more suitable for music playback than others ?
Yes, at least the EtherREGEN comes with a good explanation of why it will (should) improve things, from the the fully isolated Port B, to the improved power regulation and filtering for both A & B ports, and the Clock generation etc, see EtherREGEN (original, "Gen1") – UpTone Audio
If you did follow the development thread, you got the blow by blow account for each stage of design & development, component selection etc.
Anyway use of the EtherREGEN in my Roon fed NDS base€ system continues to delight, impress and deliver.
@Joppe,…Hi,.Interesting that you were there,I didn’t have the opportunity to go down to High Fidelity.
But I have received some direct reports from Kalle and Per (High Fidelity),.that seem promising.
They haven’t tested so many switches before,I have tipped them about Cisco-switches.
But they can’t sell pre-loved in such a store .
Before hearing it in real life I heard about it and the background of it was described as something inline with, an “switch engineer” with ideas on how to do things better/different than the standard technology left his position at his “switch company” and teamed up with Chord to realize his ideas. If this is correct there might actually be some new technology in it… apparently it uses a “custom” SMPS.
(PS. haven’t heard the EtherRegen so can’t compare)
