Firmware update v. 3.7.0

I haven’t received the update yet, this is normal?

AFAIK some countries can be a bit behind others but I would have thought it would be available pretty much everywhere by now. If you still haven’t received it by Monday I would contact Naim support.

In the meantime, the advice on the beta forum when someone is waiting for an update that isn’t appearing is to do a power off restart of the streamer and close and restart the app.

Best

@tomvamos, @Naim.Marketing, finally a little disgusted with the new update: what should work works, and it sounds great; but…

Playlists do not work: before the update the lists saved on the server (NAS - Synology Audio Station) could be played with the limit of 500 tracks (499 more precisely); after the update the lists of more than 250 tracks do not work, when launching them only the first track is played, and the rest, although it seems to continue being part of the playlist, and in the interface of the Naim App is displayed, it can not be played…

I understand that most find the playlists somewhat useless, but it should also be considered that the minority who enjoy them and even listen to our music in this way, are also part of Naim customars and have trusted the brand for our musical investment.

Waiting for a solution…

I’m surprised there’s not more comments on the sq changes with 3.7, to me it’s quite a drastic change from 3.6, bass response in particular on my system has changed considerably, the nice low end I was getting on some favourite test tracks has greatly diminished with the remaining presentation more forward. Overall disappointing as i really liked 3.6.

The only issue I’ve had with the update was my NDX2 remote stopped lighting up when picked up. I disabled then re-enabled motion detection in the app and all seems to working fine again.

Maybe I got a duff download but I doubt that’s possible

I can’t really say that there has been any significant down turn in sound quality. All sounds as great as it ever was here. Certainly no loss of bass anyway. I did do a factory reset, just to be on the safe side of things mind…oh and deleted and reinstated the App. Basically started from scratch again. No harm done.

Could be a noisy mains day? Can’t say I hear any change to the ND555.

Hope it resolves with a factory reset.

Because other people said the opposite and most people didn’t post about changes, presumably because there were none for them. For instance, I did not post about SQ changes with 3.7 because I am not hearing any.

In the Roon forum after every update there are also always people who hear an improvement and some who think it’s terrible although there are no changes at all

This issue was at least in previous vesion. I re-start application several times and usually this helps.
The same time Spotify works fine, so, the streamer just ok. But the Naim thinks it is not.

That’s very helpful, thank you

I know it’s not very. People are making way too much of supposed changes, based on half-correct information, while Naim keeps saying that they are small at most. The possibility of bias is real as can be seen in the reactions to Roon updates.

I am not saying that what you hear is not real, but if you have “drastic” changes and bass is suddenly missing, it is in all likelihood not caused by the firmware version. Maybe it’s worth doing the complete reset as others have recommended, can’t hurt (except the possible loss of presets or so)

Hi all, since updating my Naim streamer to new firmware with Tidal Connect, neither device (ipad/android phone) will play music through the streamer when connected to tidal connect (nor through chromecast). The Tidal IPad app is updated to the latest version. Also, various “master” tidal songs seem to revert to “hifi” when connected to tidal connect (but still no volume). I have attempted to clear the cache on the android phone, deleted and re-installed the app on my ipad, did a full reset of the iPad, and reset the streamer including a full reset (power disconnected), and no change. Please advise, any help is appreciated!

Try a factory reset

Hello, and welcome to the Forums!

Let’s start with some troubleshooting before you try the factory reset option.

You say you are using the latest version of the App - do you mean the TIDAL App or the Naim App? You should be running the latest versions of both (for your iPad, that’s version 5.22)

Once you’ve checked that, try streaming TIDAL from within the Naim App - does that work?

Also, you won’t be able to stream TIDAL Masters (well, you can, but you’ll instead get the Hi-Fi version), as Naim does not support MQA. That’s the same whether you’re using the TIDAL App or Naim App.

I’ll talk to @tomvamos and the wider team re this key issue. We already have Firmware 3.8 in beta test, FYI, so we’re not talking a huge wait for possible fixes.

I suspect what has happened is that the bass presentation has changed rather than reduced as such and it is reacting differently in my room and with current speaker position. Apparently 3.8 is not that far away so I’ll wait and see how that behaves. I’m very aware of cognitive and bias issues but this is quite tangible.

Hi @newcomer, are you using an iOS or Android device?

Hi Clare, thanks for responding. Yes both apps were fully updated, and multiple resets attempted. Reading through these forums I now know that the masters format is not supported, but, I’m not getting any sound from the system using the tidal app (music plays through the naim app, but I want to have use of the tidal app). Thanks for any help or suggestions
