Football Season 2020 - 2021

It’s Fat Sam they really need – unless he’s already going to Liverpool.

Thomas Partey coming to The Arsenal is a big signing for us a defensive midfielder of this calibre has not been seen at Arsenal since Gilberto Silva great news for The Gunners!

Good signing, but surely a creative midfielder should be the priority. I’ll miss Torreira, which is more than I can say for Guendouzi.

Of course a creative midfielder would have been great but make no mistake the priority was Thomas Partey I was sat here over a year ago upset because we didn’t activate that release clause.
Partey has been at the defensive heart of one of the toughest defensive sides in Europe over the past four years he will bring so much to this Arsenal side.
The three at the back formation we’ve been using has been out of necessity K. Tierney isn’t a centre back and Ainsley M-Niles isn’t a left wing back K.T is a left wing back. Thomas Partey will allow Arteta to play a more traditional 4-4-2 and you talk about creativity the man you love to hate Dani Ceballos can be creative watch videos of him in the Spain u21 team. It’s just a shame that William Saliba isn’t deemed ready just yet but he will be and will form a great centre back partnership with Gabriel, K.T and Bellerin as wing backs, Partey and Ceballos in the centre of midfield with Saka and Pepe out wide and Auba and Lacazette up front. Along with quite a strong bench I’m sure we will get top four and that extra money will buy us that creative midfielder it’s a shame that Aouar will probably cost double next summer what he would have cost now.

You paint a compelling scenario. Apart from Ceballos. I can see that he has talent, but he’s a disruptive element, more concerned with building his own brand. Take the bullying of Nketiah, or the laughable attempts to be the on-field general. He’s a nasty little poser, and the sooner Arsenal can sign a true creative talent who’s also a team player, the sooner he can bugger off back to Madrid.
As for top four, there will be stiff competition for that. City and Liverpool will get past the recent misfiring. Spurs, Chelsea and possibly even Everton will also be pushing hard. But there’s no reason Arsenal can’t be in the mix.
I’m glad you rate Kieran highly. He was a great loss for Celtic, but we all accept that’s the way it goes now.

I think we’ll have to agree to disagree over Ceballos but the Premier League hasn’t seen the best of him yet Arteta has had to play him in a slightly deeper role as more of a ball carrying midfielder more Jorginho than Ozil but in Spain he is recognised as a true number 10 and was named Player of The Tournament at the last U21 Euros playing that role. Granted he is not Santi Cazorla and isn’t Arsenal’s long term solution but he’ll do a job for us this year.
As for the Nketiah incident Eddie needs toughening up why Arteta picks him over Lacazette 50% of the time is beyond me, yes bring him on 2nd half and play him in the cup games as their is definitely a player in there but he is never a first choice over Lacazette not yet.

Theo Walcott has returned to Southampton!

Great move for both parties love Theo a great player and incredibly nice person.
I suppose he didn’t live up to all the hype but I remember him putting the wind up a great Barcelona side twice and scoring the winner against Spurs.
Lionel Messi stated that Theo was the one Arsenal played that scared them the most.

So who was the stand out signing for your club and during the whole window obviously it’s Partey for us but Gabriel will prove the best value signing imo.

James was a great signing for Everton the two German lads at Chelsea and Van de Beek at Man U.

Time will tell. Agreed James seems to have been a great buy as does Ollie Watkins!

As to Chelsea’s signings, I was excited about Werner, and he does look like the real deal, though not yet performing…

Of the other Chelsea signings, Havertz seems to be playing himself in and Chillwell (birthday party invites aside) is a good buy right off the bat I feel.

However, imo, Ziyech looked like he was very capable pre-season before his injury and, although very early days, I wouldn’t be surprised if he turns out to be pick of the bunch, with him and Pulisic terrifying defences for a while to come.

Silva seemed a very shrewd signing for a season, barring slip ups. And even my cat is better than Kepa in goal, so right now I’m 100% behind Mendy. I only hope no-one else gets there too.

I’m glad we’ve kept RLC on the books, hopefully he can get some regular game time at Fulham and improve his match fitness.

A Charlton mate has just texted me suggesting uncharitably that Saints are now a retirement home for old nags!

How old is Theo now 30? Hardly an old nag and if I was a Charlton supporter I’d not get into banter with anyone who supports a Premiership team!

I’m cutting him some slack, he’s a good friend!

Besides, Charlton once took Fitz Hall off us. When he was a Saint, he was known as One Size. As in one size fits all.

Thiago has to be one of the best deals of this transfer window, he even has is own record label.

This England Team is terrible today. All the intelligent and creative players are sitting on the bench. It really is criminal to be playing such a dour team in a game like this.

Has Southgate lost his bravery?

Tsk…Jordan Henderson, Kyle Walker and Eric Dier on the pitch, how much more creativity could you want?

Southgate has some of the best young players in the country at his disposal.
We have a generation of players coming through that are very exciting
Foden, Mount, Greenwoond, Grealish, Saka, Maitland Niles, Nketia, Sancho, Chillwell but as JOF says Southgate needs to grow a pair.

I’m glad it’s the Chelsea Lukaku that’s playing and not the Inter Lukaku.

Wow, how did that happen?..

Big win for England. Belgium’s first defeat in two years.

Mind you, I watched the earlier ROI v Wales game, where the piped crowd noise was overwhelmingly that of snoring.

What a dire game of football.
