Saints were good value for their victory this evening. That they limited Liverpool to so few goal-scoring opportunities is very, very credible.
Right, superb defending…
Loose finishing, way too many bad balls, sloppy goals and not being able to breakdown organised defences is the theme for all the teams this season.
I thought there was some odd decisions by the ref and var…why did he not check the foul on Mane? That was a penalty for me based on previous examples.
Well that’s another three points in Saints’ annual fight against relegation. No south Hampshire derby games next season then…
A good day at the office, Southampton 1, Premier League champions 0
Very very pleased.
Southampton did both Manchester clubs a huge favour tonight with as @JOF mentioned Liverpool v Man U followed by possibly by one of the biggest Manchester Derbys in quite a few years to come.
Results over the Christmas period just reiterates what a topsy turvy season it’s been I’m so happy to see Arsenal gain all 9 points we have a massive game coming up at Crystal Palace after the FA Cup weekend which Mikel may have to sacrifice as I can’t see him playing any of our recent front four players against Newcastle perhaps Aubameyang but I think we will see Willian, Nketia and Pepe lining up.
Not forgetting themselves.
That goes without saying
Colin Bell. RIP
Saw him play as part of the 'Holy Trinity" in the early '70s, when I was at Manchester Uni.
What a marvellous player Bell was. I also thought he was pretty cool at the time. RIP, Colin.
Boyhood hero of mine. Sad news indeed. RIP.
Proof you could be stylish and hard as nails.
I saw Colin Bell playing for Bury at Carrow Road when I was a teenager. He looked outstanding then as a youngster and was definitely one of the best players this country has produced.
My Dad took me to my first Man City match, away at Luton in 1975. I got to see Colin Bell play who has always been my favourite.
The Government have confirmed that only elite sport can continue during lockdown.
This gives Sheffield United two months to prepare for their next game.
Sadly Saints’ home game with Shrewsbury Town on Saturday in the 3rd round of the FA Cup is off. Shrews squad and staff massively affected by Covid. Best wishes to them all for a good recovery.
Well done to the Villa youngsters 1-1 v Liverpool at half time.
Four of Villa’s starting XI weren’t born when James Milner made his professional debut.
Well done younglings.
So pleased Aubameyang finally got on the score sheet and great again from Emile Smith Rowe.
Smith-Rowe has been a breath of fresh air. A real prospect for us and hope he develops. Personally I thought Tierney was MotM but it was very close. Tierney worked tirelessly all match an put it on a plate for Auba.
Great to see VAR doing what it should on more than one match too (MK Dons v Burnley).
