Football Season 2020 - 2021

35 year old Milner was excellent today. Last season he was told that he could look for another club if he wanted and he decided to stay and fight for game time. Played well today.

Down a place but still the top team in London!

A much better second half for Liverpool though Spurs looked lost without Kane.
Gareth Bale a once incredible footballer who once destroyed Liverpool in a CL final looks uninterested and Højbjerg who no doubt the Spurs faithful love is as dislike-able footballer as I’ve ever seen.

Spurs need to improve soon before their season slips away from them.

Genuinely interested, what puts him in such potentially lofty company, there’s been some amazingly dislikable players over the years.

It’s probably totally irrational and a personal thing but you’d just have to watch him play, the cheating, gesticulations to the officials etc, etc I know these are now very common but certain players just go about it in a more odious way than others.

Don’t disagree, especially when you always hear the back story of “started at Bayern, was going to be bedrock “ blah blah and mostly goes about the pitch hacking and poking. Do think he has some talent, but get what you are saying.

Think the ultimate one for me is Ramos, but most of us would probably have taken him in our side.

I used to have grudging respect for Dennis Wise, had not a little ability, but was so niggly, but that is what probably made him as successful as he was, perfect nickname to.

Nicolas bendtnar (def spelt wrong), used to make me laugh with his seemingly never ending belief in his ability, was always funny but no doubt infuriating for gooners.

El Hadj Diouf takes some beating for all round loathsomeness on the pitch.

I’d add a certain Louis Suarez to the list though if he’d come to Arsenal I’d have put up with the biting.

Ah Mr N. Bentdnar probably spelt wrong too a player who did actually over achieve considering his lack of talent.

Arsenal’s new signing the Norway international Ødegaard corrected an interviewer on the pronouncement of his name not Odour Guard but Erder gerd! Which I thought should a sense of humour and an ability to laugh at one’s self which is a good start.

Let’s stop talking about last night’s game, OK? …

Now, about unpleasant players, Dave knew what to do…

Yup, Suarez was a real dilemma, he was an absolute magician for us, one of the best and “apparently” and totally lovely fella off the pitch, but, yes, flawed is an understatement of epic degrees when looked at in the round.

Yes your new loaner could be interesting, been sort of following his progress over the years as such high hopes and claims have been made for him, so could be a real asset.

It’s always good to see those that maximise it, for me, Ronaldo is the ultimate example went to Utd at same time as Rooney and wasn’t rated as highly.

Well, one worked at his game and was totally dedicated to his talent and took it to the Max. The other for me never progressed from talented kid, obviously that looks harsh when looking at his record, but still feel there is a “what could have been” and ultimately under achieved on the world stage given early promise.

More of an issue generally for talented English players, recent examples would be Barkley, which given their levels as kids would many have picked Hendo over Barclay. However, I know who I’d pick every day of the week, and it isn’t rose tinted glasses, Hendo has squeezed every last once of his talent and getting his rewards. The other is bouncing round clubs still trying to realise his gifts or his best position, which usually ends up barely making the bench.

Saints beaten at home by Villa this evening. I don’t like saying it but we have been on the wrong end of VAR.

I’m somewhat worried for our immediate future. Our kids don’t have the bulk to deal with men like Grealish, Barkley and Mings.

My mood has been lightened by this highly rated comment (which I don’t agree with) by ‘Tommy 200’ on the Daily Wail site:

“I’ve said to my 5 year old. Everytime Grealish goes down. I’ll put a pound in her piggy bank… so far she has enough for a deposit on a 3 bed semi…”

In the end I think we did OK against Man U we had our three most important players missing Tierney, Aubameyang and Saka and Martinelli went off at half time, United on the other hand where at full strength and have an invincible away record this season and really needed to win to stay in touch with City at the top who won again against Sheffield United so a point and a clean sheet isn’t a bad result .

We’re unbeaten in 7 have 17 points from a possible 21 and have scored 13 goals and conceded only 3 in those last 7 games. Mikel Arteta has achieved the incredible by making this defence one of the best in the League with pretty much the same players who would regularly capitulate under Unai Emery and at the end of the Wenger era .

Another plus was that Martin Ødegaard came on at the end meaning that Arteta is prepared to play him straight away further strengthening the very young and dynamic
attack minded group of players that we have if Aubameyang can regain his form then we will be a threat to any team.

Didn’t think we could play worse than in our previous game against the Scousers, but I so underestimated that excuse for a Spurs team tonight.

Utterly dreadful. Painful to watch them. Something has got to give…

The gap is closing WW just 3 points now!!

For now!

I have to say though you have had a great season so far and a place in Europe is 100% on the cards I bet if you’d been offered that at the start of the season you would have taken it.

Crikey ! We are still above you ? You must be really bad !

Dreadful indeed. Worst performance of the season.

Almost every team has gone through a dodgy spell this season. Those that haven’t yet will do so. Before the Spurs game, Liverpool looked knackered; their injuries had finally seemed to catch up with them, with woes at the back affecting every department of the team. Look at the calibre of the seven players out yesterday through injury: Gomez, Matip, Mane, Van Dijk, Keita, Fabinho, Jota!

City have sputtered, Spurs look bedraggled, MU have had their ups and downs, Chelsea are a mess. Too many games compressed into too short a time, too many meaningless games (international friendlies FFS!), too many injuries, too few backup options, too much pressure… If you’re not allowed even to go the shops, imagine what it’s like for players travelling the country, mixing with who knows who and going back to their worried families.

Sadly, none of this serves as an excuse for Celtic this season.

Dear oh dear. What has happened tonight?! Totally lost the plot.

Let’s not get carried away I watched the Luiz red card over and over at half time and am still scratching my head as to how it was a red card.

We where playing very, very well and should have been two or three up at the time and it’s completely changed the game.

What came after that is the result of a ridiculous red card. The Leno sending
off was just silly but hey Saka looked on fire again early on as did Partey so let’s just go again on Saturday.
