Fair enough, I only kept up on the BBC so just saw us go 0:1 up just before HT and suddenly went into HT with 10 men and 1:1!
Then we kicked off and go 2:1 and down to 9
It seemed like a bit of a self destruct but sounds like it wasn’t too bad. Onwards and upwards for the Villa match. I think I’m just disappointed that we didn’t go further up.
Sad days… Spurs are playing worse than Accrington Stanley (who the 'ell are they ?), watching them is depressing, frustrating and enough to make a man go bald…
But don’t despair, there’s always David Luiz to cheer up those sad days
I won’t dwell and gloat. An interesting stat I just read though - since Arteta took over the noisy neighbours, their team have had 9 red cards, no other team in the Prem has had more than 3 during that time. Food for thought.
Big result for the Blades this evening. Almost certainly too late to save them but the damage done to the Baggies attempt to survive could be significant. Can’t see Big Sam’s record of avoiding relegation being maintained this season. Bottom 3 now seven points adrift, though Fulham’s position isn’t quite so precarious as they have 2 games in hand.
Well played Yanitid tonight (so far, after 72 mins), but…
Oh man, the disallowed goal of Southampton…
The worst VAR decision ever. The guy was onside, the fancy lines put on the screen related to nothing and were just put there to make us think they were checking.
I thought we where absolutely fantastic in the first half and should have been 3 or even 4 nil up. Saka hit the post, the side netting and had a goal disallowed before 10 minutes where up then Pepe scored a sublime goal and on the stroke of half time one of the most ridiculous red cards I’ve ever seen according to the refereeing commentator the letter of the law states that the intention of the player is of no consequence and Luiz would have only got a yellow had he wiped the player out.
And as it always does a red card changed the game completely but I’m still very happy with the first half performance and the direction in which our manager is taking us so nothing at all to gloat over WW.
Just watching the Southampton game who also had a player sent off and a penalty given for this same ridiculous rule apparently referees have no choice and no room for discretion wether or not there is intent, wether or not it is accidental if the player does not go for the ball it’s a red card and a penalty if however the defender wipes the player out but goes for the ball it’s a yellow. So defenders now will do the later and hope the keeper save the penalty.
“Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offending player is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.) the offending player must be sent off.”
Referee Craig Pawson technically followed the laws of the game as Luiz was clearly not trying to play the ball.
Since the ref deemed there was contact (it’s difficult for TV viewers to see - Arsenal fans see nothing, Spurs fans see GBH) then he had no option but to red card Luiz as he committed an offence but had no possibility to play the ball.
