For those with 500, which speakers are you using?

If you got cheated thru buying stuffs on eBay (US), you will certainly get your money back. If fact, eBay is always on the side of buyers, and this would cause you lots of hassles if you are the seller and your buyer is a bad guy.

Another thing I do if I have reservations I set up a conversation with the seller
A genuine seller will be happy for a phone call
I did that when I was buying the 552 DR

We had a half hour chat from 32.5, 52 and beyond, that told me everything I needed to know and proceeded to plonk nigh on £10k in his account
The only reason I went to Wales to collect it is I didn’t want the post throwing it about
It had been recently DRed and serviced so wanted it to stay in that condition
Likewise the 500DR, I picked up myself
The other 2 we’re going back to Salisbury anyway, 1 has been and come back

I had for now only good experiences with eBay. As seller, I generally use eBay too , but for costly items, I ask generally bank transfer or certified check . PayPal and EBay take too much money from the transaction.

Totally, and @NorfolkT I’m sorry to hear of your troubles. It’s a peril and statistically speaking, it eventually happens even when we really try to avoid it.

For some crazy reason, after looking off and on for a year or so, there are 2 500’s on Audiogon right now, plus my dealer wanted to sell his demo. One of the 2 on Audiogon is from a dealer in western Canada, and the other is from a dealer selling what was traded in from a forum member here. The 500 out of Canada was on earlier in the year, at a higher price. It’s back on at a lower price and is a very good deal right now.

Admire your calmness in the current situation Dave, I know I’d be too angry and upset to even post about it. We’re all assuming it was via eBay and if so and you’ve used PayPal let’s hope you get your money back.

I can’t stand the idea of honest people getting done like this. Best of luck with it all anyway.

Kind Regards, Rack.

@NorfolkT, if you don’t mind talking about it, it would be informative to others to learn some detail of the scam, not least because it may help avoid being caught similarly. Anyone buying from a stranger, whether or not online, is potentially at risk and the best way we can protect ourselves os to learn from the experiences of others, awful though it undoubtedly will be to recount it.

However, I’d suggest a dedicated thread rather than here. There is a thread called Scams: it only ran for a short time in November and is closed now, but Richard Dane may re-open it if requested, otherwise a new one perhaps.

I seriously considered buying that unit, but after discussing with my wife I found the price too high and I upgraded my LP12 instead. I came very close to adding Harbeth Super HL5Plus to this thread!

It’s down to 15k

He’s getting there! Interested?

Apologies for the late reply but things have been a little hectic here.

The 808s are more detailed with a sweeter top end, more balanced cut off between the top, mid and bass and definitely a much weightier bottom end, perfect for my love of the pipe organ. Don’t get me wrong the NBLs remain a superb speaker particularly on intimate acoustic music.

The 808s also portray a much greater soundstage with both depth and a stereo image. They work extremely well in my room and I have them standing in exactly the same places as the NBLs once stood.

I just listen now with a big grin on my face at tracks that I have known and loved over the years as the 808s reveal them in all their splendour.

Hi Michael
Thanks for the reply. What you described is the same experience I made.
My Titan 808 are positioned 10 cm more in front of the back wall and slightly turned in.
Enjoy your listening! The actual situation all over Europe results in more time for music listening.

2 weeks since last summary, and if I have read right only 4 additions. Nevertheless time for an update:

73 responses.
Naim is still most popular brand followed now by Kudos displacing B&W. The two most popular speakers are Titan 808, with 7 users, followed by Naim NBL with 6 users, though NBL is matched by B&W 802 if you lump all the variants together.

As before a number in parentheses after the speaker is the number of users if more than one:

Those Titans are simply gorgeous
I’m biased towards kudos as I own the T88s - which aesthetically are not for everyone ( though I love their purposeful looks).
But those 808s are the nicest looking large speaker that I’ve seen.
As they are supposed to be an improvement on the 88s, you must be in heaven.
Do u connect speaker cable to treble or bass cabinet?

There’s no ATC as yet, I remember a thread years ago of a search for speakers for a 500 that ended in EL150s but I saw later that the 500 had been replaced so maybe a case of too much speaker but what of the other models?

What are mission 70s doing on that list, @Petersfi is it an improvement on the B&Ws.

Audiomarkt Germany is a good place for the second hand Naim equipment. Items are always (very) mint but, quite expensive despite the fact that they are sold second-hand, even recent …
The sellers are generally serious …
Germans love the hi-end and are also maniacs.
This doesn’t prevent that there are scams as elsewhere. Be careful!
In my case, I buy mainly on a private site in Fr. Never had any problem … Normal, sellers and buyers already know each other! :grinning:

Why word it like that? Maybe it works well in their room. Maybe they’re saving up for something else?

Slightly surprising(?) not to see any Kudos Titan 707 on the list. Nobody?

Similarly surprising that there’s only one pair of 606, particularly given the significant price (and size) of the 808.

using 300 either singly or a pair?
