How many music streaming services are you subscribed to?

That prompts the subject of karaoke in pubs - whoever thought it was a good idea to give drunk people a microphone needs their head examined!

As my dad told me many years ago - when drinks in, wits are out. Why did I not listen to him? Arrogance of my youth.

Spotify - family sub, for me used to be playlists as TIdal and Qobuz are poor.

Tidal - family sub, again purely for one artist no longer supported on Qobuz

Qobuz - car, home, solo sub, for me the best SQ, but poor catalogue

It’s interesting, unless the master does not conform to the respective LUFS profiles, they will almost certainly be the same file from the distributor. Any difference heard will likely be down to driver implementation on the streamer.

I experimented using Roon which hides the driver differences on the streamer and most tracks sounded identical such I genuinely couldn’t tell the difference between Qobuz and Tidal.

Playing natively with Naim I prefer the SQ of the Tidal Naim driver/code… but I can see why some might prefer Qobuz which on Naim I find gives a slightly brighter presentation.

None. I had a subscription to Qobuz but I didn’t like it. If I just want music playing I can stream anyone of several really good FM radio stations, for free. If I’m going to sit and listen, I listen to my rips from my NAS which sound much better than Qobuz

I have the highest tier on Tidal and Apple Music. I use Roon at home with Tidal and my NAS, and Apple on mobile. I really like some of the radio shows on Apple and have discovered some fantastic artists thanks to Elton John’s Rocket Hour. Now over 400 episodes; the man adores music of all kinds so a marvellous discovery listen

Apple Music if you own anything Apple and an iPhone especially is a no-brainer really, and Apple radio is excellent, yet on here seems to get a lot of bad press.

I have a Spotify family account and Qobuz. I almost always use Qobuz but the family would kill me if I ditched Spotify. It does have a better algorithm for suggesting new music but, frankly, even its algorithm isn’t as good as the ā€˜what are you listening to…’ thread on this forum.

Going modify my Qobuz comment, for mobile listening, as I also use it with a BT dongle for full lossless (when available) and earbuds, using the USBAPP app, but it needs WIFI.

Why, all Android devices i think, except Xiaomi force the Android driver even if like mine they have a Snapdragron chipset which supports lossless.

Yeah same here, for me its purely the family sub, same with Tidal, yes i swear by Qobuz but everyone else is happy with Spotify lossy - i guess they don’t have golden ears

Roon with Tidal.

And yes I make playlists.

Roon (not really a music service) via a lifetime subscription purchased over 5 years ago.

Qobuz monthly.

The proliferation of monthly charges has me exercising some discipline, and I limit myself to ONE streaming service. To-date, Qobuz has met all my needs really.

There’s a reasonable view that if we’re talking about ā€˜lowish fi’ earbuds, or car speakers playing through road noise . . . a lossy source isn’t much of a disadvantage. And in some environments, a little more loudness compression vs. less can be an advantage.

Tidal and Roon. Perfect combination to just enjoy music. Great value, quantity and quality of music with ability to run a convolution filter for room correction (quite light touch for me).

Qobuz and BBCSounds, also Roon. BBC radio has a fantastic range of music and other inspiration. I find programs like record review more relevant than any algorithm.

Streaming can now give the highest quality and over five years I’ve only found one thing removed from Qobuz that has not been replaced. I’d much rather have one top quality streamer than several medium quality sources.

Spotify is also European.

Two: Spotify Family and Qobuz. I’ll be dropping Qobuz now that Spotify has CD quality.

Nice! Tidal user here as well. Thanks for sharing.

It’s kind of ok, but the meta data and supporting information about a production is severely limited, to non existent … for me Apple Music is about passive consumption and not really for the recorded music enthusiast, where you just can’t see key information and identification about a specific recording.

I use it in the car or train for background music play .. and for that it works reasonably well.
