70 is the average for mine. Re the weight distribution, I don’t think it matters which way round the supports are with 2x2 box. It’s only when you start stacking or have a 2x4 upright then you have to think about weight of lps being transferred all the way down to the bottom of the stack.
Exactly.
That’s my experience too.
FWIW, I’m averaging 65+ old vinyl and maybe 45-50 new vinyl. Hope that helps.
I have a 2x4 vertical with a 2x2 on top, and it works just fine. It’s been standing there for at least a year.
Like your handiwork above your albums
Now you have jinxed it! Quick go and check all is well
The Camaro is still in its box…
Unfortunately so is my Mustang
I’m not sure if it’s already been mentioned as I haven’t read the whole thread but some people recommend adding a thin sheet of MDF or Ply to the back of Kallax to add some extra torsional support and strength.
I just had to unload and move my shelves to make way for electricians to work this week. Before putting them back I added flat corner braces to the two 4x4 Kallax I have. I guess it makes them a little more stable, but they did stand there for almost eight years without an issue.
Morning Stranger
Many Ikea units come with a hardboard backing which increases rigidity significantly. Much cheaper than ply or mdf.
The larger Kallax units should come with corner brackets to attach to a wall. These are mainly to minimise the risk of toppling forward, but they increase the rigidity. I used a 5x1 vertical unit for about 400 LPs.
I’ve moved my collection from one room to another recently - adding another couple of stacks, and creating air gaps…
Also added a second set of units to present all my MOFI OneSteps, Analogue Productions UHQR, Blue Note TonePoet, and Impulse together as collections - which I think I prefer to putting them with the rest of the Artists releases.
Anyway - more Kallax…
Fabulous collection Matt - the highlight for me being Marcello Bielsa sitting there on his bucket taking it all in
He’s so precious I bought a spare in case anything ever happens to this one…
This is a really setup of Kallax. I like it. In retrospect I might have done a series of 2x4 + 2x2 like you did, instead of the 4x4 + 2x4 I have, but the 2x2 weren’t available when I originally bought the 4x4 back in 2015.
Is it the gloss white or plain white? I have gloss and really like it, especially since my speakers and subs are piano black.
Impressive! love your LEGO handiwork.
Ah yes - and there was a time a 2x1 would have come in very handy for me - wasn’t available - but is now.
You know what - I actually had no idea there were two different flavours - but all of mine are “Satin White” (my name, not the official name!) which works really well I think.
Thanks! …I have the Lamborghini still in the box, and the Ferrari half done…I dunno…the Gearboxes become a bit of a slog, but I do need to finish it!
Yep, me, in Oak all very sturdy no sag at all, go for it!
