My Ferrari not even started, and I have just ordered Concorde…love the layout of your Lp’s
I have been using a Kallax 2x4 on the stand with the long side horizontal. It has been perfectly stable and one of the few inexpensive ways of getting a lot of LP storage. Overall it looks quite nice and assembly is quite straightforward. I did connect it to the wall behind it to prevent any racking although that didn’t seem to be an issue with having only two cubes high.
I don’t actually connect any of mine to the wall - I find it such a faff and makes needless holes in the wall.
I actually deal with the natural forward lean that a shiz load of records gives a high tower of Kallax by cutting a length of thick “old skool” electrical cable (although spare NAIM NAC A5 would work brilliantly I’ve just realised!) and running it the full width of the front of the stack. It sinks into the carpet, but gives that extra stiffness and lift at the front…also allows for tuning of the lean to get them all vertically aligned - I can confirm that this is VERY satisfying
Yep did the same to my 4x4 Expedit, thin piece of hardboard under the unit just tilts it back a shade
Looks great - and lots of the same box sets in our respective collections.
Have to say I had to zoom in on the CURTIS boxsets to make out what it actually was - at first glance I thought it must be a particularly provocative Punk boxset or something
Yes and unfortunately it’s in twice! Photographs were taken at different times and I’d had a change around in between
Sorry if this has been asked before, but what is the weight per kallax compartment when filled with LPs? I assume box sets will be a bit less
I have a shelf 4x4 which should weigh alot
I’ve never weighed what I put on a shelf but I suppose you could do what I would do if it did. Grab 13.25" worth of your typical albums you want to store and weigh them.
Hopefully less than 13kg
I did this. Grabbed about 1/4 of a Kallax full of LP’s - which was too much for my kitchen scales. But half of that (so 1/8) was about 2,5kg. So about 20kg is my offer for a full Kallax shelf.
This is a Distributed Load - not the same as 13kg in the middle.
My Kallax has not failed or collapsed…
A stack of LPs that fill an Ikea shelf will be rather more than 13kg. I’ll bet it’s closer to 20 kg.
I have three 4x4, three 2x4 and one 2x2 Kallax that are filled with albums. I’ve never had a failure in nearly a decade using Kallax and it’s predecessor Expidit.
The key part with 4x4, 5x5, etc is to orient them correctly (i.e. the full length shelves run horizontally, with the short shelves supporting them). Most failures are due to getting that part reversed.
I came to the same number - 20kg, I should have looked a bit harder to find this post!
I’m happy the shelves I have my vinyl on are sufficiently over specified for the weight they’re supporting - though I haven’t looked how much baltic birch based products cost recently to see if I’d still recommend them!!
Just to clarify, 13kg is the rating IKEA lists for Kallax shelving, not my estimate of the weight of a Kallax shelf full of vinyl
I understand that, but in the wild it will handle more weight just fine.
Many thanks. I should have also searched. I saw the figure of 13kg and also found a figure of 25kg. So a total for 4x4 of 208 kg to 400kg. That is one heck of a weight
I really hope that black Strat is secure on its wall hanger🤞
We have probably both seem many Posts showing Kallax full of LP’s - and never seem one collapse… Oh, apart from the one which was on its side…
Correct, I’ve never seen one actually collapse
