Internal fuse nac 102

My kit stopped mid song and I’m guessing it’s the Nac 102 where the problem is. I’ve tried two different sources and no luck. I’ve been told there’s an internal fuse in the 102. Any ideas where it is? Any other suggestions or ideas?

It was working today but cut out again. I recently switched my Nap180 for a Nap250. Is this amplifier too strong. I rarely move the knob past nine o’clock.

The 250 cannot power the 102 like the 180 can. To use the 250 you need a separate PSU for the 102.

The 180 is a better match for the 102, a better pre like an 82 would be a better match to the 250.

So I use the NAPSC but I do have an extra Flatcap.

You need a Flat cap or Hicap if you wish to use the 250.

Ok. A quick primer on connecting those two?

OK, so this is probably “teaching Grandma to suck eggs”…

The NAC102 gets it’s main power supply from either of:
i. one of the smaller NAPs - 110, 140, up to 180. A single +24V supply rail is provided by the NAPxxx.
ii. an external power supply; Flatcap, Hicap or Supercap. Two +24V supply rails are provided by the external PSU.

The NAP250 cannot provide power to the NAC102. Therefore an external PSU (FC/HC/SC) is mandatory.

Note the NAPSC remains an optional “upgrade” for the NAC102. When attached and the relevant link plug removed (see the UM), there is separation of the supplies to the analogue signal path and the “digital control” circuits (relays, LEDs, motorised potentiometers), so the FC/HC/SC supplies the analogue signal path, and the NAPSC supplies the “digital control” circuits.

Hence there are two connection scenarios (dependant upon which NAP is in use):

  1. if you are using 102-180 then the connection is a SNAIC4 from 102 to 108.

  2. If you are using 102-PSU-250 then the connections are SNAIC5 from 102 to PSU (FC/HC/SC) and then DIN4 to XLR from PSU to NAP250.

Note that even with the smaller NAPs (up to 180), you can still use an external PSU on the 102. In this instance, the connections would be:
SNAIC5 from 102 to PSU and then SNAIC4 from PSU to NAP110/140/180.

Technicalities aside, the combination of NAC102 (+PSU/optional NAPSC) to NAP250 is absolutely fine. Been there, done that! (I still have the 102, although it is still in storage)
