LINN 50th Anniversary LP12

I got mine serviced there a few years before part-exchanging it. The IEC socket change was an interesting part of the service.

Your choice. Cirkus can be traded in with may retailers offering this to help look after other customers with older LP12s requiring service. The Karousel IS the single biggest upgrade anyone with an LP12 can make and thankfully itā€™s pretty much the cheapest upgrade too!

The IEC socket in mine, as received, had been ā€˜hackedā€™ (to remove the filter) Darran told me - and was not necessarily ā€˜safeā€™. It was replaced, with an unfiltered one.

@Skeptikal ā€“ thatā€™s quite spooky. I also bought my LP12 (fluted afro plinth though, not black) in December 1987 ā€“ also in PX for a Heybrook! I presume that was a TT2?

At Tonbridge Hi Fi Consultants, I PXed a TT2 with Syrinx LE One and A&R P77 for the LP12 with LVX arm and K9 cart. Ā£429, it was. Still have it today, though the plinth, top plate, outer platter and lid hinges are the only thing that remains.

Yes, apparently the original filtered one didnā€™t play well with Naim kit in particular.

Yes, it is. I just checked the price - and no trade in could make it work for me.

Happy With An Older LP12.

If you support this kind of corporate mentality which is doing more harm than good to an already quality product then fine. I donā€™t like the way the world and these markets are going where it creates a bigger division and excludes more and more loyal customers of which I have been one since 1985

If it helps Linn to make another 50 years, good on them.

Although not owning a record deck now, Iā€™m sure that this will help future developments for the LP12.

With very many thanks to you Peter.
You have carried my upgrade path very commendably and at great effort and inconvenience to yourself for me.
Long may it continue.

Your trade-in value for a bearing would also be down to the subjective opinion of a dealer, in my case the Cirkus was worthless, perhaps so but it sounded fine to me before I was informed it was worn.

Thatā€™s a bit like me saying, ā€œwell, I hope your ceiling falls in and your horrible spindly Aro arm and your ugly tubby Wenge plinth get thoroughly trashedā€.

And what lesson, precisely, are Linn supposed to take to heart, O Wise One?

@TheKevster
Spooky indeed mate.
Yes it was my TT2 I had the Mission 774 arm on it and got it put on my new LP12.
Iā€™ll attach a couple of pics below.

What harm is it doing, and to what, exactly?

Lovely design. But way out of my league.

Like much of Sir Jonnyā€™s work for Apple, itā€™s definitely inspired by Dieter Ramsā€™ work for Braun.

These two beauties from the early 1960s being a case in point (sorry for poor iPhone pics - taken from the Phaidon book ā€œRevolution - the history of turntable designā€).

Iā€™m not sure what harm itā€™s doing ? Itā€™s a special edition , priced as such and the Majik to Klimax range continue to be available at various price points. Hopefully elements of the new design (even the hinges) will flow down to the standard products and keep the iconic LP12 moving forward.

Ā£856-00 is the latest price I have, for the Karousel kit (Octā€™22)ā€¦

The Cirkus kit was Ā£490, in 2018ā€¦ :expressionless:

There is no way a trade in can work, sorry.

Not Doing It. Ever.

Quite, and the Cirkus should be good for a few decades unless you have some bad luck re-siting your LP12 at some stage.

If I was to spend Ā£850, it would not be on a Karousel - but a replacement DV 10X might be on the cards, for less than thatā€¦ :spades: :clubs: :hearts: :diamonds:

A new belt wonā€™t be far off that in a few years
