LISTENING EXPERIENCE for linear ps and switches

Clean stable power is king.

Thanks Michael.
All is so good sounding that I donā€™t want to change nothing. I should have since the beginning take a linear ps as the one I have now. Or Sean Jacobs or Uptone js2.
I know now that lesser ps give not a worthwhile uplift for the Etheregen. The stock SMPS is already very good. To improve on it, you have to invest in the best linear ps available, in the near 1k euros range.
The lesser ps give a minimal uplift ( lps 1.2) or not 100% satisfactory results.( Farad)

It reminds me when I had the unitserve. I first tried the Israeli ps, for 400 euros. The uplift was minimal. Then only the Uptone js2 gave something strong on the table.

Horse sense

And with plenty of current reserves

Ask my horse is also a french expression, but not kind.
Are you ironical towards Mike? Because I understood positively what he said.
I misunderstood you Michael?

Yes he was being positive and I agree. I was just going for the pun on stable and horse.

Anyway Iā€™ve changed it to horse sense to avoid any confusion. Ask any horse is not an established expression in English. Nor indeed is ask my horse.

English has a well used expression ā€œI got this straight from the horseā€™s mouthā€

I understand now. Horsepower.

What does it mean? I am curious if it has the same meaning as ā€œ demande Ć  mon cheval ā€œ.

It originates from horse racing. The joke was the ā€œhot tipā€ for the next race would be more reliable if you heard it directly from the horse, rather than asking the jockey.

When Mike_S referred to ā€œclean stable powerā€ he was describing the need for a high quality power supply, without voltage/current/frequency fluctuations ie an adjective ā€œstableā€

However, the word ā€œstableā€ is also used as a noun to indicate the building in which we keep a horse. A stable.

That is the British humour creeping in again in the form of a pun, which Michaelb acknowledged ā€œI was just going for the pun on stable and horseā€

Ah ok. I didnā€™t knew the other meaning of stable.
In France, you say to someone ā€œ ask my horseā€ when you have absolutely no interest in what he says or ask to you.

Absolutely agree and an excellent stance - enjoy your new switch and LPSU.

On the face of it, your specialist switch looks expensive, but itā€™s new and so should not be compared with a second hand one eBay. I codesigned a special switch on my job (not audio) and its price was 4 times as high; we had to make sure it had no detectable EMI/RFI as well as other features of no interest here. Itā€™s not cheap to make a high quality specialist switch from scratch.

If I were building an audio switch Iā€™d filter traffic so a streamer only saw useful data. Audiophile switches donā€™t seem to do this; perhaps itā€™s not worth doing. Maybe weā€™ll see a next generation audiophile switch that does.

What do you mean by filter traffic? And how do you know that audiophile switches donā€™t do that?

ICMP (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Control_Message_Protocol). This is to make sure that your streamer is not bombarded by unwanted network packets. Decent switches like CISCO does it.

I donā€™t know if the Etheregen, for instance, does that.
However, with its stock SMPS, it sounds already better vs cascade Ciscos.
With my new MCRU, itā€™s another world.

So this begs the question for local streaming at least, and I havenā€™t tried it myself. Would connecting the Uniti Core directly to the NDX2 using the coaxial digital output to input, give better results than going through any local Ethernet network? This would avoid any impact of network cables and switches.

I tried Unitserve/ linear ps to bnc to Nds. The network connecting sounded clearly better.
And at that time I had only netgear switch and Meicord cable.

Try it and see what you think Mike. Whilst it removes the Network from the equation (well it does if you completely unplug it), S/PDIF has itā€™s own set of compromises too. There is no perfect solution here.

:small_blue_diamond:@frenchrooster,ā€¦My feeling is,.that if you start producing an high-end audio-switch,and you are a respected manufacturer like Chord/English Electric.

Then you have probably acquired quite a lot of knowledge in the subject,.as this is still a somewhat controversial topic.

But you may start another polemical discussions, like a virus infection
