Lovely setup Murmur an excellent result with the Lemon oil.
Thanks HiFiman!
I forgot to mention, during a little research I found that lemon oil shouldnāt be used on all plinths. Some of the Chris Harban (Woodsong) plinths in particular have a wax finish that isnāt compatible.
Lovely finish on the plinth, Murmur and good to see another MM cart on an LP12
Thanks Mr T !
Iāve come to the conclusion that the K9/Nait canāt drive my Kan 1s properly unless the volume is very high. At low to medium levels the Kans just donāt come to life and music is a bit boring. Itās different when using Krystal/Urika/Nait - that works better, especially 45RPM. So, for partnering with the Valhalla/Ittok/K9 deck, itās either 12/110/Kans or Nait/ELAs. Both are very good but quite different. Nait/ELAs gives you that joyfulness that the Nait has in spades. 12/110/Kans is probably the better stereo to most flatearth ears. Thereās no outright winner though.
The NAIT and ELAs is a wonderful combination. I also love the NAIT with Minstrels. I agree that Kans work better with a NAC and NAP110.
Love your Mr Burns.
May I ask who managed to fix it, as Iām tempted to give it another go.?
Sorry, I never bought it in the end.
I happened to mention to Class A a couple of years ago that I had an A60, and Darran said he could service and recap it. Not sure how cost effective that would be, but you could give him a call.
I had Kans (early 1988, so late Mk 1s) for many years, with a 72/HiCap/250. When they were good they were extraordinary, but one of their weaknesses I could never quite fix was a tendency to fall apart at low volumes. Iāve upgraded many other components since, and performance at all levels has improved, so I wonder how theyād sound now if I could ever muster the motivation to set them up again (I couldnāt bring myself to get rid of them, and I still have them boxed up, almost 2 decades later).
Iād not consciously been aware of this but now you mention it I think I know what you mean. There is kind of a minimum volume where the music comes together.
FWIW, I think 32.5/Hi/250 was one of the nicest sounds I got out of Kan 1s.
I reckon you might be able to answer your question without all the setup fuss with stands etc. Just stick them on a bookshelf or even a carpetted floor and you will probaby get a good enough idea. Only right that you should loosen them up after 2 decades. Otherwise someone is likely to report you to the RSPCK OR - are you afraid you might enjoy them too much!!?
Very nice pic
The difficulty I always had with Kans is theyāre ruthlessly revealing in terms of setup. I found they only sang when I had them on proper spiked stands, and as close as humanly possible to the back wall: Iāve heard of people cutting out the skirting boards to reduce the distance further, which must have made connecting the speaker cables difficult. My current situation requires my speakers to sit against a shallow bay window, which is difficult, but I find my (sealed) ATC SCM7s to be fairly forgiving about positioning. I greatly doubt that Kans would ever sound good in that location.
But, who knows? Maybe my circumstances will change at some point in the future, maybe one of my kids will express an interest, etc. Iāve never been a gear hoarder, but Iām still glad I kept the Kans.
Will do, especially as my CB kit is in need of a service !
I took delivery of a fine CD5x today. Itās amazing what the Tab 10 Sigs and Nait 2 can give you when the source is improved.
I was reminded of two things after listening to the new CD player today:
-
There is great synergy between Naim sources and Naim amps
-
The Nait 2 has a certain quality that is something special
Looking very smart.
Agreed. Itās a wonderful amp (with suitable speakers). I might have to try those Tablette 10s one day.
What was your previous source, out of interest?
CB Nait 2s are a bit like henās teeth. Wouldnāt mind one in my study, but tracking one down is a challenge.
Thanks. IMHO the Tab 10s have the āitā factor.
Previous source was a Mojo fed by my iPhone or MacBook. To be fair to the Mojo I was using iTunes so was certainly not maximizing it.
