I think I have seen one or two CB Nait 2s ever listed here in the U.S. but on “that” auction site in the U.K. they come up from time to time. That’s where I got mine. Then had AV Options do the voltage conversion and restoration.
CB Nait 2s are out there but, as you say, I think the price is putting you off. I really depends how much you want one. A lot of people have them as ‘spares’ or are unwilling to part with them. If the money is right then they usually let them go. They are becoming more expensive and a lot are going overseas.
As regards the NAP 110, this is becoming harder to find as well in my experience.
It is all about being patient. In 5 months I completely changed my systems to CB after initially trying 62/90/140. Very happy with what I now have.
Did anyone recently see that bashed up olive Nait 2 from a refuse centre sell for over £600 in auction? Bonkers! But prices do seem to have gone up £100-150 the past 12-18 months
Moderated Post: Please do not post links to items for sale here. Thank you.
@Murmur - that is a high price for the condition, but with some tender loving care addressing the casework and a service it would then be rather desirable.
Although for a pristine, minty, serviced chrome bumper Nait2, inc original box, packing & manual, then the price would higher I’m sure!
Not a system as such but still running my Nait, RP3 and Kans from the 1980’s. A bit like triggers broom though. The Nait went back to Salisbury for a recap, the RP3 has new set of caps and motor and the Kans have been back to Linn for s refresh, all around 7 years ago. Its sits in the study looking cool and sounds as good as it ever did.
Meanwhile I have just got hold of a cap 250-2 to replace a 150 in a flatcap/112/150 set up with Spendor A5’s. I’m hoping it will sound OK while I’m on the lookout for a major upgrade (previously used) of 252 and Supercap to go with the 250-2.
Finally will be the A5’s to replace but I love the Spendor sound and haven’t found anything that really sounds better. D7’s perhaps when I find the 252/Supercap.
No. At the time I just contacted them and asked. It was the same with Naim. I moved to France and no direct dealers in this part of the country. Naim were a bit tetchy but finally agreed to deal direct.
I think the issue with auction prices has been cranked up in the past 100 days. People at home, bored, cant go to the shops…At the moment non-essential items on these sites are attracting silly money. I sold (by chance) a load of my old MF X and XA series stuff for silly money. Double what I actually have got in early feb. I found all sorts of stuff for a second/third/fourth system I was saving for a rainy day. Once I realised that I had the time to sell the stuff and they were attracting good money, there was no stopping me. Even sold my MF X-ray CDP that I told my wife was “broken” ( and had to buy the CD5si to replace it). My Cambridge streamer sold for £130 more than I paid for it 14 months ago- No longer needed once I have the ND5 XS2.
So, the sellers market may be over. For those wanting to buy, you may want to wait a few months.
I saw it. It was a rich price relative to transaction comps, but not relative to the musicality it delivers. Honestly, what can you buy for even $3,000 that matches its listening experience. I wouldn’t be surprised if it doubles in value over the next 10 years. Same for the 72.
I borrowed a CB hicap from the main system and put it on the CD5x to see what would happen. It was a near religious experience.
It rankles a bit to think about how much time and money I have wasted searching for the Omega Point in higher end systems when the humble Nait 2 and a CD player with the ubiquitous hicap were hiding in plain site all along, but such is life. Perhaps when I was younger I would not have been wise enough to consider the possibility that satisfaction could come from reaching “lower” rather than “higher”.
