Naim Chrome Bumper

The reasons for keeping the forum sales free are well established. Naim feel the best place to buy any Naim equipment, whether new or secondhand, is from one of the many established reputable dealers who carry the brand. Furthermore, it would be nigh on impossible to police adequately while keeping the forum free of any outside commercial interest. And consider that any dispute or issue with an item sold on the site and Naim might well feel obliged to step in - it’s a potential minefield.

Yes upon reflection what you write makes alot of sense. I will approach a few dealers that I know and let me know if and when something comes available.

I phoned around the UK Naim dealers about 3-years ago looking for 160s. Didn’t find one but did land a nice one-owner 32/110 with original boxes which then went off to Class A. It’s often luck - this pairing was about to be part-ex’d so the dealer gave me first refusal when they arrived.

EDIT: Just remembered this is how I got my CB250 as well. Both power amps ‘needed’ a service though - neither was firing on all cylinders. Think the 250 was buzzing and the 110 was sounding very tired having never been serviced in about 35 years. Both dealers had been open about the situation though and you can’t be too choosey with so few examples around, not unless you’re very patient. The 250 was mint and described by the dealer as “the best one he’d seen in years with one lady owner”

On a new CB sub-topic, I’m still learning and surprised how much work it is to fine tune the balance of these old systems. Recently tidied up the mess in my office to give the Briks more space. The sound improved but I also lost some bass (which is in short supply anyway). I’m still trying to find the best mix of vintage Linn/Naim components to provide (just) enough bass across two systems. The other system has bass-light Kans, which are often tricky, and slightly peaky B110 drive units in both pairs doesn’t help either. I’m lucky to be able to swap around a lot of kit but even then it’s still a challenge. Many times, I’ve assumed X will be the best setup/component, only to find that it’s not quite as good as expected. This is one area the Nait helps cos it’s so neutral, but of course it has other challenges. Anyone else struggle like this?

Yes I will just bide my time and re-enjoy the newly serviced NAC42 and NAP110 waiting for a SNAPS to come up. It’s not as though you can’t enjoy it without the extra power supply. It sounds great after a service interval of nearly 38 years. Shame on me. Together they are a great amplifier. The power amps certainly benefit from a service. My 300 after 17 years was sounding tired. Now it’s back to a new state.

A left field suggestion is a for a cassette deck is a Sony Pro Walkman. Looks great benched out beside a shoe box pre amp.
Back in day I seem to recall The Sound Oganization did a Nait, Pro Walkman and Kans in a sort of ghetto blaster rig.
I did a Pro Walkman - 42/110 - Kans. The Walkman isn’t as good as a BX300, but it’s pretty good.

Yes, it used a pair of Diamonds IIRC. I think I have a picture somewhere…

The torture those guys inflicted on loudspeakers with their darstardly spikey stands…

I’ve found the picture of it but weirdly I’m having problems uploading it into the forum at the moment. I’m not sure why - our web dev did an update earlier so i’ve asked them if that may have caused a problem.

I’ve struggled to upload too in the last 20mins.

Ah ok. What browser and os do you use?

I’m on my Android tablet using Chrome. I got it to work in the end but it was much slower than usual.

Can confirm the inability to upload images. (Damn, wanted to show off my NAT01…!).

OK, I’m on a much newer Macbook now and running Mojave, so…

Nait blaster1

p.s. Tim, I’ve messaged you.

Richard – Safari on MacOS Catalina… photo uploading fixed, now (obviously ;0)

Well it arrived bang on time for Saturnalia… the display is dim, but the tuner seems to be working (no aerial yet). I don’t suppose the display is fixable? The NAPST will be off to Darran for a new fascia and replacement of that fecking awful red LED.

One question: there’re separate AM and FM power outputs on the NAPST, but only one power input on the back of the NAT01. So, if, for some strange reason, I wanted to change from FM to AM, would I need to move the power cable?

Quality! :+1:

IIRC, Darran is unable to work on the Naim tuners - only Naim have the specialised equipment for aligning them.

AFIK, the early displays can no longer be replaced.

I think it was the Cornflake shop rather than the SO. They also made the mad exo skeleton stands for the Diamonds (a bit like the original Roksan Darius).

Is that meant for outdoor parties? That Nait must surely get quite warm.

I never heard it, sad to say.

I do have something similar though. My domestic holiday system (i.e. one that can be easily packed and put in the car) is a NAIT, a pair of Goodmans Maxim2s, and an iPod 5G and Ponoplayer.
