I presume it’s supposed to echo the idea of a fine wine of a particular ‘vintage’ given it celebrates ten years of the Naim-Focal partnership.
The difference being that you can enjoy the Naim kit in the intervening years - but the wine not so much.
Yep. I like the grey too. I really do. Reminds me of a certain Swiss Brand that makes large grey boxes with red displays. For me, grey Naim sized boxes work. On smaller compact components - certain Chord Electronics ranges for example - grey or silver does not look as good as the black versions (IMHO). But grey Naim sized boxes with green illumination and black rotaries? Initial impressions are very good for me. Yes. I like. Never thought I’d say that.
Well this is…well it’s interesting. Huh. Grey! I never saw this coming. If nothing else, it’ll generate a lot of marketing chatesphere! Radio 3 is playing something called ‘speculative visions’ right now. Rather fitting I think.
Seems there is more Grey colour coming, with today’s announcement of the Uniti Star Ash Grey sold exclusively with Focal’s Aria K2 926
I reckon that fancy Swiss anodising plant Naim use has run out of black, so they’re just sending stuff out in primer
Ha ha - stop it
IIRC, the casework is made in Switzerland and the anodising is done in the UK.
But yes, very droll…
All a bit of a mystery to me as to why this is happening
Odd
New marketing gurus coming up with this
I personally like the grey. Its a nice option for the modern house and younger Naim owners I think. Whilst we all think the world revolves around us and us alone the reality is the future for Naim is the generation who sit below most of the current users on this forum and their tastes are definitely different. Looking at system pics threads highlights this.
Anyone got a pic of a LP12 with a grey plinth?
Looks really cool to me!
That looks awesome
I take your point Steve, I agree probably aimed at a younger market than us older dudes
Personally I just don’t like the grey
But I’m happy for change
Cheers
They look awesome in the flesh
HA -
Everyone is so busy discussing the looks, they are forgetting the more important SQ. Oh, imagine the tests, which sounds better ? The time tested black, or the upstart grey, or (gasp) a mixture of the two. If anyone still has the green pen from the early days of cd, perhaps framing the front facia of each piece with green ink (matching the naim logo) will be another test, to see if their is any improvement😃
Can hardly fault any of the Dieter Ram designed Braun. The atelier is as timeless as ever. I do have one of the t-1000 radios, exceptional sound and build quality sadly it is next to impossible to have it serviced. It works but not really properly.
In the car industry giving your product a ‘fancy?’ paint job and calling it a ‘special edition’ is often a sign that they are trying to off load an outgoing model.
Apparently, it is Dieter Rams’ 90th birthday today! The old radios are very nice. I used to have the Atelier series receiver R1 and turntable P2 in black, bought from my first job restocking shelves in a supermarket. Unfortunately, they had to go when I heard what an LP12 with proper amplification could do.
I just realized that one can get those things fairly cheap at some auction platform. But what to do with it? All the extra space is already filled with records.
