I have a question. Do the glass plates have recesses for the balls or are the balls on the smooth surface? If so, then I ask me if this is not very sensitive. I wanted to get a glass plate from a friend and then try to get the ball and cups from Naim. Should be for the Rega Planar 8.

There are no recesses. Thatâs part of the design, which gives three tiny points of contact. Itâs actually very solid, the glass is heavy and wonât move. The best support for a P8 is probably the Rega wall bracket, so long as you have a nice solid wall to attach it to.
You are certainly right about that. However, this is not an option for us. USM Haller is set, with a special reinforced board in it.
You can use Naimâs âFraim Glass Locatorsâ to help make the glass more stable. Iâm pretty sure most people donât bother.
I did use them when I installed my Fraim when new. About 15 years later they still sit tight and are not even âyellowedâ from age or anything like that. Quality stuff.
IME, some stick very well, to the point of not wanting to come off and others came unstuck after a few minutes.
Unless you have inquisitive young kids, roaming pets, I wouldnât bother with them.
Plus, when dressing burndies and ICs, itâs often useful to be able to slide the shelf a tad.
I have a random question about whether I can add a full Fraim base to my Fraim Lite rack. Iâm guessing that I could just swap out the Lite base for a full base. But can I just replace the top Lite shelf for the upper level of the full base, so I effectively have a top full Fraim shelf for my 252?
AFAIK the wooden shelf parts are essentially interchangeable so I donât see why not.
I live in an area where earthquakes are not uncommon, and all my life the media reminds us that âthe big oneâ Is due, so I use the glass locators on the top shelf, just in case.
A really big earthquake is likely to see the tack distributed across the lounge, but in a small to medium quake Iâm naively optimistic that the higher shelf support legs will help keep all the but the top shelf glass in place. And the locators might help for the top shelf.
If nothing else itâs a comfort for when more clumsy friends come around
Why would you let people near your rack; especially âClumsy PeopleââŠ
My system is in the lounge, and I havenât managed to get one of the yellow and white adhesive floor strips a meter out from the rack past the aesthetics committee yet
Mine is in a separate building and only sanctioned and escorted people are allowed in theređ
no problem at all Mike, on the top of my full Fraim - there is a lite version shelf (as a upper level).
cheers,
Kacper
Hi everyone, wanted to jump into the thread again to share some recent experiences with a long post.
along with my Naim kit, i have lots of other equipment and many pieces that are too large for the frame. over several months, I recently compared my different Naim kit on a large and quite heavy wood rack to the same equipment on the Fraim. the process involved using the fraim, then the heavy wood rack, and then back to the fraim.
i can say that for Naim kit and in my home, the Fraim is clearly essential. there is just something lost in the musical message without the fraim. my wife hears this quite easily as well.
the comparisons involved mostly turntable listening (Rega P10) with an AV Options Ultimate Nait 2, Nait 3R, Hicaps, NAC 72/180, Supernait 2 into Dynaudio Heritage Special, Quad 63, and Quad ESL. also used my much loved EMIA phono stage along with various internal Naim phono cards in the olives and a Lundahl silver step up transformer. Lots of combinationsâŠ
btw, the Rega would of course be best on a wall shelf but when seated on the fraim, seems to allow the table to perform as designed. much is lost here on the big heavy wood rack and in lieu of a wall shelf, decoupling from the heavy rack via a light platform is required.
the biggest surprise from this effort was the Nait 2 with relatively insensitive speakers and compared to much more powerful amps both Naim and non Naim. I find it hard to understand but this piece seems to have moved up to most favored status and clearly benefits from the fraim. itâs now my most loved amplifier. it shouldnât be but it is. credit to Naim and Chris West and team at AV OptionsâŠ
I have the Fraim and i love it, But the last 6 months is packed down and Ikea BestÄ has replaced it. 9000 % less dust, more minimalistic and more protected.
Will never resell Fraim because you loose like 60-70 % of its value. Maybe one day when i have my own listen room i will use the Fraim again.
Has anyone use a full Fraim base on top of a crezenda/cupboard/table? My 552 is currently on a crezenda, next to the Fraim Lite. Iâm not entirely keen on adding another level to the Fraim, and like the idea of the 552 being away from the NDX2. I reckon I can fit a full Fraim base under the 552, where it is. Has anyone done this? The other options are staying with the current set-up, or looking at a hi-fi isolation platform. Thoughts please.
552 has its own internal isolation system so should be OK as is.
Not to say a second Fraim wouldnât be a good future plan, but Iâd stop worrying and start enjoying
Maybe building a second naim Fraim (next to each other) would be an option?
