Naim in 2024 - what do you really really want?

Active speakers. That would make a nice low-box-count system with Atom HE or 222, for example.

I want a logo bar that doesn’t keep drooping. It should be like this:

but after a couple of minutes it’s like this:

What is the world coming to?

I bought my 102 way back in ‘99. It didn’t have the lights in the volume and balance knobs. Are these retro-fit?

(Or maybe mine was a ‘Friday’ unit🤷🏼‍♂️)

That’s a good point, because the XS series feels like a very “current” and accomplished entry-level “separates” system. But I believe that everything that wasn’t converted to white lights, will be going away in 2024.

PS: Similar to the XS series, the same is valid for the NDX2-SN3 pair. I suppose that’s why the NDX2 is still available. Once the replacement of SN3 arrives, then NDX2 will also disappear.

Loudness button and tone controls.

My Nova (early 2018 model) had a drooping logo bar. It was sent back to Naim for repair. Turns out there was a faulty batch of double sided tape which holds it in place. Naim gave me a brand new replacement. Worth a call to Naim maybe?

That they restore some stability and customer confidence in their international distributors and service centres

Ability to integrate Apple Music directly (as per Qobuz). Understand this is not totally within Naim’s gift but it would still be nice.

A cassette deck. I won’t stop going on about it until it happens.

As most of us already own our perfect systems, how about improvements to the Naim app such as ability to have locally stored files and Qobuz on the same playlist.

I’m sure my 102 had the lights.
I feel its nice to have turn on/off light on 202/282

No illumination on the knobs of the 102.

A manufacturer website which keeps those who have sunk £1000s into naim up to date.

Like when are we getting Tidal Max support?

Many other manufacturers have already released firmware to support this, naim don’t even mention on their website.

OK I have a few requests from Naim:

  1. A new shoebox range including streamer and CD - and it needs to be affordable. I have genuine concerns that Naim is just getting too expensive for the everyman. I was a student when I bought my Nait in 1988 - it listed at £255 that year and I picked mine up ex demo for £200 which was a real stretch, but it was still do-able for a student prepared to graft in a bar job while living at home with Mum and Dad. Inflation adjusted £255 equates to well under £1000 even now and that’s where I would like to see Naim pitching its shoebox components. At that price I think they would sell like hot cakes - CD, streamer and integrated amp would make for an impressive line-up.

  2. I really want Naim to get the button labels for olive back into stock - I seem to have lost mine and it’s frankly annoying that nothing is labelled right. Even if they only ordered 500 sets I bet they would sell out in no time and would be a heck of a lot cheaper than me ordering a one off set…

I have a hunch that CD might in the next couple of years see a resurgence, not as strong as vinyl but there are still quite a lot of people out there who prefer physical media.

I want naim to prosper and continue to service old models.

I recently had an 82 volume control replaced (POT(?)) which naim can still do. I bought the pre-amp over 30 years ago.

I had quad before naim and they had a great repair service but went bust.

I am unlikely to buy any more naim except for streamers …

My history is …
quad 33/303
naim 32.5/snaps/250
naim 82/2xhicap/250
naim 252/300
[In this list I ignore streamers and dacs and other stuff from naim]

+1 for a standalone shoebox DAC, ideally one that doesn’t need another +£5k power supply box etc… Simplicity in one box pls!

Mu-so Qb without the speakers and power amp side. So that would be a sub £700 network player. Put that tech inside the Dac-v1 as well if you can.

Don’t forget the cassette deck.

I really really want the New Classic (as we now seem to know it) to continue to be hugely popular and so for the s/h market to be flooded with 282s and 300s so I can get to my end game system at a price where I also get to keep Mrs Ebor too.
