Nait 50 speakers

I am using B&W 705 S3 with great effect. They sound balanced and powerful with the Nait 50. I am constantly amazed at this wonderful little amp, big shout out to the exceptional phono stage. Cheers.

I have a pair of the latest Rega Kyte which I intend to connect my Nait 50.

Latest recommendation - Stirling LS3/5a V3. Wowza.
Easier to drive and a bit richer then the Falcon Ls3/5a, and more detailed and images better than a Focal Aria 906.

I am a new owner of Nait 50 (and ND5XS 2). I am using Vienna Acoustics Haydn that I have bought with my Atom 3 years ago. It sound very much better and the Nait 50 is fast and has a phantastic soundstage with better resolution at all. But the new combination is leaner than the Atom. Bass ist not perfect. But I am testing out the speaker positioning in my listening room at the moment. Yes @mech the Dynaudio Confidence 20 sounds very good in the Video. But it is an expensive solution and they have presented the combination with other expensive high End components like Weiss Dac 501. There is another Video from Signals „ Unboxing the Naim Nait 50“ (Youtube). They have compared Dynaudio Special Forty with Falcon LS3/5a and preferred the Dynaudios in this setup (starts after 2:45 in the Video). And of course listening to Youtube Videos gives an impression but it is limited.

I am starting to think that a revealing higher priced speaker is key here. I have a top end 500-series and currently matched with Special 40 and I am not really that happy with it. I supposed that is what is meant by what you guys called a mullet system?

I know my speaker is weak link now but I wish I upgrade speaker somewhat first before gear. But hey not complaining I can always slowly hunt for speaker next

No you have the opposite of a mullet, a monkfish which is all front end.:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Sorry if i dun get it. What actually does mullet and monkfish means in terms of HiFi haha. Non-British here.

Just noticed this thread, I have found the Russell K RED 50s work really well with the NAIT 50.
They provide a very fast smear free presentation through the cross over frequency up through the upper mids… super insightful, but not the best for powering the Christmas party disco… but then neither is the Nait50.

A mullet is a term used for an imbalanced hifi system, typically the backend being more capable than the front end. So if the speakers were significantly more capable than the say the amplifier, some people might refer to that as a mullet

Never quite predictable, is it:)
I think the Nait 50’s bass should be tighter and although it would likely go slightly deeper over the first days and weeks, with a more controlled bass you may indeed try the speakers closer to the back walls? Do you have bass traps?

Think of Noddy Holder of Slade’s travesty of a haircut - that was a mullet and a half!!!

And Dave Hill, also of Slade, had a ridiculous haircut too - as if someone had upended a pudding bowl on his head and shaved any hair that was visible.

He always wore six inch heels, so I assume that he was a shortarse!

Yes that was definitely a pudding bowl haircut for Mr Hill , it looked like his mother did it

A mullet and a monkfish are systems where the source and speakers are out of balance, one might be an expensive turntable coupled with cheap speakers and the other very expensive speakers with basic amplification and cheap amplification.

The former i.e an expensive source and cheap speakers may work (Just) expensive speakers and basic application won’t

Whilst both sound like fish, one is named after a haircut ( fashionable in the 1970s and with the occasional Australian :australia: cricketer) and the other after a fish with a big mouth

Yes, this is always a risk when you try only at a dealer and not at home. But this was not possible in this case. I have a new speaker positioning now, a little bit closer to my listening place and a bit less turned inwards. It is a little bit better now, but I will continue testing. When I go further at the wall, the soundstage looses depth. Yes, I have room acoustic treatment in the corners.
And… could you test your Marten Oscar Duo with the Nait 50 yet? That would be interesting for me…

Focal Aria 906 K2 and Naim Allae both work great with Nait 50. Focals easy to get right, Allae need more care with placement. 50 also runs Kerr K320S (main speakers) well. Atom HE as the source.
