ND555 at Olive System

Chord Sarum Super Aray din-din trounced the HiLine between ND555/552 to my ears.

Love it.

There are so many differences with Sarum
Is “Chord Sarum Tuned Aray” the oldest version, than Super Array and now Sarum T?

Heaven knows. I got mine for £650 on ebay and it works a treat. I was anxious of our cats behind the hifi destroying the HiLine.

The SQ gains were a marked bonus.

650 is a steal !
I found one for 1K Euro in a German platform.
But… again my bad stacking habit - I think 1m will be too tight :frowning:
(streamer left / plug on outer side - 52 right / plug in the middle and one shelf under ND555 level)

Morgana is 1,5m …

Vertere - keeps music flowing.

Little Update in my “naim blog”

An old friend came by, which I have not seen for many years. He really has a sharp ear.
We listened to

  1. Muso 2 (30 sec)
  2. 2nd System (ND5XS2-nDAC - nait 2 - n-Sat) → first impression… yess, make my feet tap
  3. ND555 vs TT on main System (for hours)

we had a real good time and both came to the same impression.

TT sound is less broad with the stereo image and more on the earthy side. TT had won over ND555, when the Music is more intimate (Fink, W. Fitzsimmons, …).
But when the music is complex and arranged there has been some songs, where the ND555 was with no doubt the winner - with a huge advantage. Every detail sits exactly where it should be and when it gets faster in the music, we had still heared every tone. In the past, I thought my cloth ears could not make it any more and preferred the more silent parts in music.
And there are also records, where it was a matter of emotion, which to prefer.

In summary

  • TT is smoother (what a surprise) - earthy darker sound
  • TT is better for more intimate music
  • TT gets to its limits, when the music is very fast and complex or less detailed
  • ND555 is more detailed
  • ND555 has an organic sound
  • ND555 is normally better, when the music is complex arranged
  • ND555 has a broader stereo image
  • ND555 is far more dynamic
  • ND555 gets to its limits with real digital recordings (getting a bit harsh - what is nor ND based, but coming from the record. ND555 has no mercy with bad recordings)

I am very happy, that the TT has still its place!
Quoting my friend: “Seems, you need both TT and Streamer”

ND555 is wonderful and I love to listen to the new sound - and it is still fine to collect vinyl-records!

This is the way!

It sounds like your TT need some TLC,it should outperform the ND555 ,in my opinion.

It does … in some cases.
I do Not think that TLC will make him outperform the nd555 in any case.

Replace your prefix with a high end phono and 5k cartridge, and your Nd555 will sound pale with true analog recorded albums

LOL … updates to updates to updates…
Runniung up that hill.

I love my prefix and really preferred the sound over superline.
With a 5K cartridge and tube phono-pre plus aro… That’s it! Correct

Makes Another 10 to 12 k …

Hopefully I am not in the wrong forum with my own thread

I am ready for finetuning, but really do not want to get lost in it - what happens some times.

ND555 is on the shelf and yesterday I cable dressesd the Chard clearway (some work), which is between ND555 and EE8switsch.
From 8switch there are only cheap standard cable.

  1. 3 m to HDX
  2. 12 m to router

What’s next?

  • Exchange cable to HDX? Clearway again? BluJeans?
  • Exchange cable to router? This will be a lot oaf work - BluJeans Cable here?
  • add second switch between router and 8 switch - Have bought a mint Cisco 2960
  • Linear PSU (S booster) for the 8Switch or router?

Just forgot
Also have powerline and hi-line cables not tested yet. 555ps is on standard power Igel and nd555 is on lavender.

Sorry - all streaming questions - maybe I start another topic in the streaming section…

Yes, you could try all of those upgrades and report back here on the results.

I should imagine most of all of them will give you some kind of upgrade, depending on how well they are implemented. And how they suit your system and tastes.

Is it an option to install the Cisco near TV (as well - ee8 is there)
When doing so, I can plug Xbox, tv, Apple TV in the Cisco and keep the ee8 (after Cisco) for hdx server and nd555 only.

This is almost exactly what we do for our Cisco 2960 and EtherRegen switches.

The primary network feed from the router goes to the Cisco switch, which then handles all TV related duties. The music server and music streamer connect via the EtherRegen to one of the Cisco ports for network access.

It all seems to work well for us.

Hope this helps, BF

In my opinion, the best in your case:

  1. powerline or even better power cables on your 555 ps.
  2. a good linear ps on the EE8. Paul Hynes Sr4 , Sean Jacobs, Uptone Js1 ( can power 2 items, like the switch and the router).
  3. the best Ethernet cable between Nd555 and EE8, like Chord signature tuned x, Audioquest diamond ( 1 m is enough).

Helps a lot - thank you.
Unfortunately there is no space to put the Cisco router.
Wall mount would be best - but only possible behind tv…
Have to be creative. To bad that I have no space in Fraim for the ee8
For testing i can let it rest on the floor.
Need a better cable for the connection of Cisco to ee8. N-stream must do.
What’s the matter with switches in a row. No need to understand - fully trust you guys.

No free socket left for powerline - hesitate to plug it in the multiple extension lead (from musicline).
Read somewhere that linear ps on ee8 is not going well. But I should try!
Ethernet is Clearway between ee8 and nd555
