Practice is good, yes. But get it anyway…
Ah another scorpion! Mine’s on the 9th! My NDX2 arrives this week and I’m fully committed to keeping both it and the SN3 bare. An XPSDR costs the guts of €4.5k here which I think is extortionate for a psu regardless of what benefit it brings.
I was of the same opinion, no Power Supply! Period, end of statement, I mean it, NO POWER SUPPLY! Just way to much money…
The bare NDX 2 into the SN 2 is fantastic!
Now if you want to keep it that way do not have a home demonstration of the XPS DR powering your NDX 2 for 14 days. It does have an impact and it is all positive. With the end result of the order being placed with dealer. (note: I only did this after I knew I had the funds to pay for it, yes it is that good)
Time has certainly taught me to Never say Never.
I enjoy my Birthday a three day celebration each year: November 10th, U.S. Marine Corps Birthday (Semper Fidelis), November 11, Veterans Day and November 12, my birthday. A scorpion time three…
Sorry to go off topic but I’ve noticed you have Qvators S $400. I’ve an opportunity to pick up some at a good price but haven’t heard them. Would you recommend them.
Yes, I had a pair of ProAc D2’s when I saw that my dealer took in a pair of the Ovators and listed them on his web site. i had a demo at the dealer of the Ovators S-400 and also the ATC SCM 19’s. I was impressed with both set of speakers.
I choose the S-400’s because I wanted a pair of floor standers. The dealer delivered them to the house and I had a 7 day return policy if they did not work out at home. They were fantastic and have been very happy with them over the past two years. The bonus was the wife like the sound but also commented on how beautiful they were and fit in with the room.
So yes, I would recommend them.
If you do a search on the forum I think you will find several other members who run a pair of the Ovators S-400 speakers.
Everybody has their own preferences but for me these are a fine set of speakers.
Hopefully you can give them a listen and see if they work for you with the XPS DR / 272 / 250 system you have,
Good luck with your decision.
@seakayaker and @Mike_S since you gents added the PSUs have you noticed any difference in volume setting. E.g. is the volume knob position in same place as before PSU during daily listening? Also has the presentation improved at lower volume listening levels?
Yes, I noticed that I had to increase the volume a bit with adding the power supplies.
Yes, though I tend to play loud when I can There is a lowering of the noise floor, that will reveal more detail, and a general expanding of the overall sound presentation.
Demo at your peril.
yes well thankfully my dealer does not hold them in stock so would be a special order / blind purchase. If I ever do go there it’ll be a second hand unit as i refuse to pay that price for a new one, if I had that money burning a hole in my pocket I’d be more inclined to upgrade speakers or buy a nice turntable and lots of music or whatever!
What interconnect are you using? I recently added a super lumina 5 Din into the equation and am flummoxed by the improvement
SN3/NDX2/DynaudioS40s/Powerlines (ex demo)/superlumina (ex demo)/chord epic reference speaker cables (ex demo)
The XPS DR awaits. Seriously though the SL has made such a drastic improvement I’m in shock, was happy with the sound before, now LOVE it.
Do you really mean that - flummoxed means bewildered, confused, mostly used in a negative or confused context.
I guess ‘by the improvement’ puts it into context. Yes bewildered. I expected an improvement, but not to the extent it has given. Positive context. But thanks for English lesson American? Hahaha
Would you prefer flabbergasted?
… flabbergasted is a lot more positive. But I’m not sure how these strange ‘english’ words are understood by the non-native english speaking readers.
Whatever, its your post & this is thread drift.
Maybe I was providing you with information you didn’t want to hear. To classify words as ‘strange’ is strange in itself. Talk about an enthusiasm vacuum. Have a nice day.
I’ll try and be more linguistically ‘inclusive’ in future
I’ve had a Supernait 2 for a few days. I swapped out a Nait XS2 and Flatcap XS. I must say I was not overwhelmed honestly. Yesterday I added back the Flatcap XS PS. I thought it was an improvement. Today, I got my HiCap Dr and replaced the FlatCap. Now we are talking! Nice!
I will throw this out there though, in my set up, my room, my ears - a Nait XS2 with Flatcap XS PS betters the bare SN2 by a tiny bit. The SN2 with HiCap Dr, now that’s a step up from the XS2 - Flatcap.
I think if you look through search on this and the old forum you will find comments from a number of folks who prefer the sound from the XS 2 over the SN 2.
I have owned the XS 2, my first NAIM amp and was a demo model that was used at the dealer so had hours on it and sounded sweet. When I moved to the SN 2, I did notice a difference in sound when I first made the switch but I would not call it a vast improvement. Over a short period of time the music with the SN 2 sounded more robust, detailed with a deeper base. I love what the SN 2 delivers but I also know that the XS 2 is a fine sounding amp.
I believe you are hearing what others have stated previously, that the XS 2 is a wonderful amp and they prefer it over the SN 2. There have been a few members who upgraded and then moved back to the XS 2. I know today I enjoy what the SN 2 delivers more than when I had the XS 2 in the rack.
Give it some time and your ears, and/or wallet, will tell you in which direction you want to head,
…as I have said before, patience and time!
Of course I will give it time. The SN 2 with HiCap Dr has been running for a few hours and it does sound great. I needed the HiCap Dr added to it to feel an improvement over the XS2/Flatcap. It’s not likely going anywhere for awhile. Now, you get out there and add the HiCap when possible. You know what a PS can do from your experience with the XPS.
I am using the standard interconnect between the NDX 2 > SN 2.
The SL 5 Din interconnect is $3295.00 + 10.1% sales tax for the 1.5 M cable in my neighborhood and psychologically a tough pill to swallow.
I never say never but will have to work my way up to that purchase. First I would need a home demo and hopefully be as impressed as you were. I won’t be ready for that to happen until the XPS DR has a chance to sit on the rack and have a couple of hundred hours of playing time.
Time and patience (and of course money), yes Time and patience…
Agreed, I am sure it would improve the performance, well it better…its $3.5-4k in NZ. I wish we had more access to demo / used gear here but volume is simple to small. I had a look at one at our dealer recently and its an amazing piece of engineering, very nicely made.
I’m not going there
