Network Acoustics Tempus Switch

Thank you for the informative reply.
Muon pro ordered and awaiting dispatch.

Wow - was not expecting that much change. Should be interesting as Antipodes K41, Shunyata Theta ethernet and 2 sets of Theta XLR cables - plus Muon Pro - all burn in :fire::fire::fire:

I have the muon pro and did not enjoy it to be honest. It makes my 500 sound off, thin and quite harsh. I did not continue and persist to 200 hours because it is just unbearable.

I am not sure is it just me or filtering got issues. In any case I really hope to get your feedback also.

At present, I can only comment positively about the Muon Pro. This viewpoint may change, as items burn in. I notice that owners of Antipodes equipment, seem to comment favourably about the Muon Pro.

I’ve finally bit the bullet and purchased the Tempus Switch. It’s a 2 week lead time as they are very backlogged with orders ATM Rob said. Which much be great for them !

What are Tempus users here using as a power cord ?

Rob emailed me back and said a solid core PC is best they found.

I’m a bit at all at sea what to look at, budget wise I’m thinking Chord Company Epic level budget, which is commensurate with the switch cost.

Thoughts ?

Halo @Seacat77 Any nice updates on your tempus switch? Hearing any improvement?

I have the muon Pro and is bedding in nicely after initial disappointment. Am considering this tempus switch to finish off with same brand.

Sorry, been way too busy to compare / review it.

It’s still only got 180 or so hours on it. So half way burnt it I’d say from reviewers and users on other Forums.

One person even said 1,000 hours for 100% burn in.

I’ll not be going to that level, about 250-300 hours is about right.

It was a “touch” too upfront and exuberant from initial listen - with no burn in.

That goes away fairly substantially after 200 or so hours apparently.

Appreciate this early assessment. When I have the muon Pro I am a bit frustrated by its harshness but have come to maybe get used to its more calm nature now. Strange. Burn in it must be.

Ah glad you enjoy the Muon Pro too! I was very surprised about your previous post which seemed you initially were not used to burn-in craziness

I can say that after 300 hours you get a stable performance, and from there on even some more slight improvements. What is recommended every 1-2 weeks is to turn of all your devices over night.

The Tempus in addition will raise everything to another level. Regarding power cord: I realized the better the cord the better the Tempus. So it’s interesting to see it really exploits the potential available.

Yes the initial listening is making my system quite yo-yo and not enjoyable. So I thought is my power issues and go and bought a Puritan. While waiting for it, the system improve day by day. So I let it be now.

I am confused by the 1-2 week turn off all my devices over night. Can you expand on that a bit more? I always leave my system 24/7 sometimes all through several months.

Do you mean just turn off the muon Pro only and not the Naim?

Interesting, what power cords do you think work well with the Tempus.

I’d like a better one than I’m currently using, a rather basic Isotek EVO3 Premier.

Thinking a Chord Company Epic or Sig. X.

Some real rave reviews have appeared for the NA Origin power supply. This PS is a higher output version of that found powering the Tempus switch, and designed specifically for digital applications.

It can be used for NAS, routers, switch, streamers e.t.c

If you are considering cables at that level, have a look at the Puritan/MCRU Ultimate Mains Lead MK6 if there is a suitable variant.
To assist with burn-in, you can use Tara Labs. CASCADE Noise / Burn-In Disc (there’s a free download on their website)

I have already tried it on numerous devices like ISP modem/router, NAS and streamer. And it improved every single one considerably! Really highly recommended.

I’ve now got 400+ hours on this and it’s not going back !

The couple of reviews that I can’t post here are pretty much how I’m hearing the Tempus. There are review link on the manufactures website for people to read / watch for themselves.

The Aussie Audiophile and Hifi-Advice are the more in-depth reviews and capture my thoughts pretty much.

It has improved everything - but hasn’t taken anything away (that I can tell…) all listening was via my stored music on my K41 server. A mix of ‘80’s very average tracks and some great recordings.

Willie Nelson’s cover of Always on my Mind was simply glorious. The Church Unguarded Moment was my “rough” ‘80’s track to test harshness and fatigue. It still has that searing guitar riff and vocals that are almost sibilant. Basically it still has that upfront and searing vibe to it, without sounding harsh or fatiguing and still has the feet tapping and head bobbing musical drive.

Essentially it has increased the “technical” hifi bits substantially without killing the drive and groove and engagement that I have carefully sought to have and would hate to give up. If anything it’s upped that a little bit more - without being fake or weird about it.

(System in my profile).

The key points for me are:

  • Substantially better soundstage
  • Substantially better resolution and detail
  • The PRaT is still there, fast without being artificially “hurried along”
  • Substantially better dynamic range (or perceived dynamic range anyway) my SPL readings are below 90dB at my listening spot, but it sounds louder than that - but without any harshness or fatigue. Quit an effort to get that right by NA.
  • Substantially better bass definition, depth and punch (or perceived anyway, it’s hard to measure that or “feel” bass if that makes any sense).

Very enthusiastic Seacat, but pretty much everybody is when it comes to the Tempus! Just wish is was a bit less in price. You only used a PhoenixNET previously?

My next purchase will be the Origin PS I think. I have used so many LPS its time to try a specialty SMPS.

Yes, I’ve had the PhoenixNET and a very basic D-Link Switch and iPower X PSU previously.

I agree the NA is expensive, but it’s a two box switch and that isn’t cheap to manufacture & the build quality is next level as well.

I deliberately didn’t listen to the Tempus after 50 hours to make sure it wasn’t just me getting used to the sound etc. until it got to the 400 + hour mark.

The upgrade on what I had ( incl. the PhoenixNET previously) was amazing and “to me” well worth the cost.

I’ve had other changes to my current system and other systems over the years that cost a lot more to what the Tempus has managed to deliver.

Extremely happy with this switch indeed, and I’ve still got QOBUZ to look forward to experimenting with.

Very appreciated the experience @Seacat77 . The tempus might be too expensive a switch to try. I do have the muon Pro and I would think it is doing good to the system.

I am looking to support fellow Singaporean with the Vinshine LHY SW-10Pro. A bit cheaper at 2.5K and seems like enough components is being used to address the issues. The bad thing on tempus is that I can’t see the internal and not sure what’s its components is made up of. And the marketing material is very limited.

Yes, NA isn’t the only high end switch game in town, that’s for sure.

The others I don’t know much about and/or don’t have a return/refund policy if you don’t like it.

The research and development around switches have improved a lot these last few years.

I was a switch, filter and Ethernet cable sceptic, couldn’t see the point etc.

Now I’m in the yes, and you have to try one out to see for yourself if it’s worth it camp.

I now can’t hear a difference at all between my stored SSD tracks vs the ones I stream from QOBUZ and I’m a stickler for eyes closed and repeat testing over time and days to see if can tell a difference.

I can’t……

You will be amazed. Tried also so many power supplies over the years and this one is really outstanding.
