Small study set up shown…. Listening position perfect with the SS6 SCM11 on my cheeky leather sling shot seat, foot stool cube anti-Eames configuration ![]()
Absolutely my thought too.
I would be petrified if I used them.
You have to wonder why people post on social media when they could be subject to such a drubbing.
Whatever happened to ‘choosing kindness’?
Enjoy your speakers, Nina and partner.
Surely you agree that the stands aren’t a good match and look really silly. It’s not about kindness, it’s about honesty.
Not really.
People post to share their pleasure in their kit.
I like the looks of these stands. Good looking room.
Thank you so much CM, much appreciated x
We are both loving our music via my chosen system which now includes the new 19’s
The Custom Design stands are wonderfully built and match perfectly with the 19’s …just think they need a little bit more of their filler to perfectly weigh them down and then we are done and will then install the spikes
So the final system at the moment is:
Rega turntable…my partner’s I had serviced at my local dealer as part of his Christmas present! My partner’s Arcam cd player, MXN10 streamer via Naim rca/DIN cable into the XS3 amp
I believe the heart of the system is the XS3, we both love it….then out via NACA5 cable to the 19’s
I’m aware that the NACA5, Naim rca/DIN cable and the 19’s need running in for a little while
I know it’s not a system that shouldn’t work together but believe me it does and it sounds ridiculously good
Very nice stands, Custom Design makes quality products and also reasonably priced.
I enjoy my SS6s as well.. (I also have the bare metal finish) I find where you position the speaker (fore and aft) on the top lossy wooden plate allows you to fine tune the speaker / stand response by adjusting the coupling and the weight distribution on the legs .. I have my legs about 50% filled with atabites. I know I don’t want to completely fill as almost certainly that will interfere with the timing unless I had very heavy speakers.
I think the Custom Design stands are well made and in the UK too
The stands were about £320 from my dealer so not too bad plus a bit for the inert filler
I think that’s the first photo of a Nait XS3 with white logo/button’s I’ve seen. Looking good!
Thanks nitrous I quite like it
I don’t find the stands ridiculous, but wonder if they are really effective. Are they made in metal ? Personally I would add some black granite slabs under the stands.
If they work for you, they work for you.
I tried using some Quadraspire “lean back” bamboo wood stands. Soon went wobbly under all that weight.
I then thought I’d refer to the horses mouth about what works best and emailed ATC.
They recommended the Atacama HMS2, which I dutifully bought then 3/4 leg-filled with sand.
Yes I also spoke to ATC about stands and they were extremely helpful. To be honest I didn’t even think I’d get a reply from them at all
They just mentioned to measure ear height etc etc… it turned out that 600mm ‘ish was the most suitable stand height for the 19’s so that’s what I purchased from my lovely local dealer
The Custom Design FS104 XL stands I got are very strong and well made but they just need a little extra filler added to them which my dealer is getting for me
I always used open frame stands with my ATCs… SomethingSolid stands were the best.. the timing was second to none, and I liked the look of them… though stand coupled bass reinforcement was obviously limited.
I did try high mass larger surface area stands at first.. and they just didnt work for me… for how I hear audio they seemed to smear the upper mids too much and rob the timing … though I could have perhaps fiddled around with top plate speaker isolation / decoupling…
We are all different.
BTW what made you add more filler already?
Actually SIS I am having some thoughts about the stands
The ones I am looking at the moment are solidsteel SS-5’s.. like these:
What do you reckon to them?
Refer above. SoilidSteel SS6 really open up the ATC presentation
I use the 6 versions of those now… I like them… I fill between half to two thirds with atabites… though can be tricky to fill.. you need patience.
But surely you have your new stands now? I would let your ATCs settle in for a little time before you adjust things. Did you not select the ATCs using your current stands?
Ahh the joys of this forum ..
Nina is sharing her wonderful positive exciting purchase , most members are also positive and enjoying the thread , but alas there are always a “few “ ready to dump negatives upon said post …
Enjoy your system , Naim truly has changed the way I enjoy music , my modest set up is better than I ever thought I’d own , the classic “range “ is at an all time low on the second hand market and I for one love it ..
