Try removing the mains power from both your TV and the Nova, as this can help with HDMI issues. However, the Nova may be seen as a different HDMI device, so use the LG input connector to setup the connection again.
I have just completed the software update on my Nova. The process took around 6 mims. Didn’t touch anything until the Nova screen showed the main menu again. Then i just had to swipe up on the ipad and i phone and the ‘room’ was found. No issues i can see and the volume number still shows. No need to power on or off here or touch the router. To be fair i was happy with the update which for me was a simple process.
All went fine and fast for my Uniti Star (no TV connected, just speakers) but then everything was fine with me on the previous firmware version too. (None of those bugs mentioned in the releases notes, except for the speaker popping, last time it did that was months ago)
Final thoughts about firmware 3.6 sonic profile
It’s a rainy Sunday in Switzerland and my wife and daughter are out for the day, so I spent some time listening to my reference piano pieces.
Piano is, for me, the ultimate test when it comes to judge a music reproduction system. A piano is capable of an impressive dynamic range and is extremely rich in terms of harmonics.
While targeting different audio aspects/qualities, symphonic music is, in its own way, is a good test too.
The 3.6 is a fine achievement!
And a nice free upgrade
The whole lower part of the spectrum is transformed.
Quite impressive, really!
The stereo image is larger and a deeper with a tad better separation (lower noise floor?).
Music has more impact and extension. As @Gazza mentioned earlier, it’s as if the system was slightly faster.
As for the highs… I have mixed feelings
On violin, piano and young girls voices I perceive some brightness. It lacks the silkiness it had before (with 3.5.2). It’s a tad troublesome…
Apart from that, it’s all good
I believe it is important to mention that there is quite a jump from version 3.2 to 3.6 !
The 3.4 version brought impressive changes and so does the 3.6.
And I believe there is more room for improvements.
In fact, for me, the ND555 went from a tad disappointing to extremely good!
Those who had mixed feelings about the ND555 should give it another try
My reference tracks :
I was also one of the others, reverted many times, nowadays I’am used to the sound and the app has a lot more functions, very happy with hiDef radio. It took a while for Naim to archief this, but overall I’am happy with functionality and sound.
This update went flawless…
Yes, actually I had to do it because after update app in iOS did not see Nova. Except for problems with hdmi connection everything works fine.
This is not a matter of LG update, problems started immediately after Naim update. Before this update connection with tv was smooth.
OK, it would be worth trying what XMB advises above. If that doesn’t work then I would contact Naim support as these HDMI handshaking issues can be a bit of a minefield.
3.6 successfully installed with a power-down before and after to be extra cautious. Had to re-install the iOS app to discover the NDX2 but Nova was found without issue and the Android app fine with both upgrades.
New firmware has not resolved garbled output and lip-sync issues here, support has been informed.
After an enjoyable few days back to brick mode.
Having exactly the same problem. Spent ages tonight messing with my tv settings to no avail. I also have LG TV. HDMI switching Worked flawless since I’ve had it. Definitely new update. Also very disappointed.
Hi Thomas,
Kind of agree w u coz i was pretty mixed on upgrading my source of nDAC when i first trial the nd555. I was this close to get the Rossini and clock. However due to price differences and cables that i nd to swap out and fitting quite awkward in my fraimlite, i went for nd555 ultimately.
Nv regret as by the time i got it, i realise its quite diff from my trial experience and of course, the convience of system integration as a whole; able to seamlessly asses my core thru single app and using single remote control.
In terms of sound quality, the ND555 made an impressive jump from firmware v.3.2 to v.3.6.
Quite unexpected !
OK. Well…now this morning the volume is being displayed as it’s changed. I didn’t do anything other than turn it off last night. But the problem had persisted a couple days prior. But, all well now. I did email Naim, and they replied they are swamped presently. So hopefully they’ll see this…(should I email an update?)
For me, even after a reset, since this update my Nova does respond to volume changes on LG OLED TV remote via HDMI, however the Nova screen no longer wakes and shows the volume is changing. The volume does change, but there has been a behavioural change on the Naim end.
In case you have not tried - in the ND555 settings from the App try playing with the ‘on/off’ settings for features you are not presently using and try each in turn in ‘on’ and ‘off’ and listen as you decide what it did if anything positive of negative and do not presume all off or on is better as it is not what I find.
For example - go to digital inputs - then there are four ‘Digital 1’ up to ‘Digital 4’ - I’m presently preferring Digital 1 ‘on’ and all the others set ‘off’, but on a previous version was getting best results with Digital 3 ‘on’: so then 1-4 was on-off-on-off, and now deciding between on-off-off-off and all off. The latter is cleaner but also a bit lacking in focus.
Include music with good clean percussion and timing - the setting allow me to tune-up for cleanest drum-hits and decay.
All these are very easy to try - result is immediate as you press on App and you either find it useful of it does nothing for you and you can dismiss it.
For me in my system it makes a difference … worth a look.
I updated to this Release version a couple of days ago and I’m warming to it a lot.
Naim do not explicitly change any response-shaping of the data between releases but all these changes are due to ongoing improvements in implementation and reduction in noise-ingress into sensitive areas (as I’ve understood it anyway) - but that is Naim’s own dark art …I’m very pleased they go there and are not dogmatic it makes no difference!
DB.
Actually scratch that. The volume change isn’t shown on the screen any more for me, irrespective of the input, even when changing it using the rotary knob.
I’m a bit disappointed that my update missed out all the sonic improvements others are getting. My system sounded great before the update, with a few screen freezes from time to time. The screen hasn’t frozen since the update, but I’m not getting better bass, voices or cymbals. The imaging has remained good, and the overall performance still makes me want to listen to my music. Oh well, maybe I’ll get better ears in the next update.
It still sounds more or less the same to me, so you’re not on your own here.
It seems that the majority of people reporting an uplift in sound quality are 500 series users … maybe its just a dastardly plot by Naim to force us lesser mortals to upgrade
Having said that I am very happy with what I am hearing … certainly no worse than before … which was pretty good anyway
Listening to my NDX 2 on 3rd day after the upgrade. Surely an improved sound.
Few of highlights -
-
NDX 2 was little bass heavy (which I liked). But now that has got blended very well rest of the spectrum.
-
Listening to Qobuz even more enjoying now. The cd quality songs also got an extra smoothness and silky ness.
-
Yes the presentation is little faster overall now. For some pop/rock kind of songs I am enjoying it more.
-
I listen to lots of Indian vocals. There I always prefer using NDX 2 with my P S Audio dac. That part also got better with this new upgrade. The timbres seem to me more accurate.
Thanks Naim !!!
