Honestly I think the waterfall type releases contributes to this. There is simply no way you go from mammoth release to the next mammoth release 5 months later and not expect things to fail.
Things can go wrong with any software release but it can be limited if the feature set is small per release. That also allows the testers not to be overwhelmed by covering all the scenarios. On the other hand it will also help with user peace of mind.
On the one hand I am very glad that Naim does in fact continue updating the firmware and not throw hands in the air and say āIt is what it isā. But every niggle that I discover on this and previous firmware updates I now know is here to stay for months. Whereas pushing out a number of bugfix releases in quick succession will keep everyone happier.
Well it seems the thread has yet to settle down so the bedding in period continues it would seem.
I did skim through and see some comments regards release notes and how to guides which I would agree would be appreciated, I found the navigation and search schema in the latest iteration of the app and ND firmware to be somewhat counter intuitive and certainly experienced a lack of control using system automation at times, possibly it would seem from others comments related to playback specifically of 24/192 streams.
The pre-release testing process is in part community supported with a closed Beta Group of end users, complimenting that I would expect Naim to have their own in-house QA and Automated Test Tool process as well as having a robust code management environment like Git or possibly Subversion.
Itās possible as a number of folks are still working remotely that their ability to run more in depth automated testing and to validate that against regressions is somewhat constrained unless they have a static test bed with all target devices running in an automated testing environment.
Having a larger pool of end users can catch unexpected or edge case issues but in the main they should as a manufacturer have the right tools and environments to be able to run near real time code verification tests to ensure whatever code theyāre checking in doesnāt introduce any regressions.
Mike, Iāve been in touch with Naim and looking at what youāre experiencing there may well be some other issues at play here specific to you. Iām going to message you as itās probably best that tech support contact you on this.
Wouldnāt it be better for everyone involved to deal with this in a more public manner? Then everyone, including those who will run into this in the future, benefit and Naim can show the community their commitment.
Issues are often quite specific to each user (such as what appears to be the case with Mike), hence support can only really deal with them on a case by case basis.
As for the forum itself, I think Naimās commitment the Naim community is beyond question.
I would add, that there has been frequent and consistent requests from users for online guidance about the software and app functionality and we are still left to muddle our way through. Iām pretty frustrated TBH.
Presets are also finally editable, you can drag and drop them into any order you likeā¦this has been long awaited for with the new streamers. Itās fantastic!
Everything went well on my update to my Nova, except Qobuz didnāt work until I switched off at the wall and restarted the unit.
āAs for the forum itself, I think Naimās commitment the Naim community is beyond question.ā
I think thatās fair enough, actually.
The complaints are noted at NAIM. And not least because there actually IS a NAIM users forum maintained by and provided by, NAIM, despite all the repetitive queries from people who canāt be bothered to go to FAQS or use the search functionā¦
Unlike the contempt shown for their users by the Glaswegian Lifestyle Overlords, for exampleā¦
Yes, the one that was tweeted a few weeks ago and deleted, then not issued when the firmware upgrade was actually releasedā¦ people need to talk to each other more often
Not sure who you might be talking about !!!
Could it be the company whose software and updates work?
Or could it be the company whose 2011 streamers play Qobuz wonderfully whilst 2018 Mu-So Gen 1 users (including my friend) and others have been kicked into the long grass forever (see other stream).
