New from Naim – Solstice Special Edition turntable

We seem to be getting bogged down in who makes which bit. Why?

The design comes from a Naim expert, is funded by Naim and is marketed by Naim as their own. Perhaps those who believe it can’t be a Naim product unless it is made in Salisbury could point me towards which part of Salisbury mines the raw materials for the electronics or which building houses the ic production for their pre, amps, psu’s etc.

500 times £16,000 is £8,000,000. There will be a few of those that don’t go for full price for various reasons. But eight million pounds, however you split it with Clearadudio, is a lot more than I’ll earn this year.

Definitely IMO, this is a lead in to a new revenue stream of turntable components for Naim (i.e. TT, phono, arm, cartridge, etc…) launched with a spectacular attention grabbing event to get the message out. It’s a good solid marketing initiative to announce that Naim are back in an important growing market segment. What I want to know though is; “when’s the bloody 272 replacement appearing!!!”

Hopefully, a fair chunk of the financial rewards of Naim’s labours will be invested in a 272 replacement…

PLEASE!!

Yes, I heard from Andy at Winchester HiFi too. Demo’s likely from next month by the look of it. Looking forward with eager anticipation !

Current Linn Tonearm are made by Clearaudio

The new Krane certainly is, but as far as I know the Ekos is made in Glasgow. I even saw a video about it somewhere the other day…

Agree. Some of the turntables posted on the forum are very expensive, loved by their owners and look absolutely ghastly. Too many pillars and posts and layers and sticky out bits and cutaways and wood and steel and chrome and black and brown and silver. My Gyro is about as far as I would go down the ‘industrial’ style path. The Solstice is fine, not well proportioned because the platter is too large for harmony, but not unpleasant to look at.

I’m sure the wording in the last paragraph of the info on the website needs a tweak:

“Clearaudio and share values of high-end audio and Naim has worked closely on the Solstice project with the German specialist for more than two years, continually listening and refining to deliver the unmistakable sound of Naim from a turntable, for the very first time.”

Remove the first ‘and’ ?

I hate myself for mentioning it.

That’s as close to confirmation as you’re going to get!

The 272 replacement will - I’m presuming - also bring in and build on the the new styling and design language we see here in the NVS

I’d buy them one if there was a link to  Hope they’re not too stressed today!

Did occur to listen to a Uniti Atom Headphone in place of the 272 to see if its any better…

Oh yes, we’ve done that test. I would urge others to do so, to.

Seriously?

There’s a teaser!

It often seems forgotten that naim didn’t bring a CD player out until nearly 10 years after the first players went on sale to the general public, and that was only when they were confident they could make one better than anyone else.

With Roy involved, I am sure the same now applies to their first Turntable.

On. Signals dealer/customer Zoom meeting with Jason Gould at Naim, he mentioned 3 products behind him that were covered up. We have had the Atom HE, now the Solstice……one more to go

Tedious question. What’s the power consumption in idle?

We are used to leaving our products on, but this has a powered electromagnet at its core, so are we warming the planet in doing so? …indeed is it a bad idea to leave it powered up?

Feature request, though it might have already been submitted in this fast-growing thread: a button to switch the logo from white to green.

On a more serious note, it’s a beautiful turntable! Congratulations Naim for this extraordinary new product! I am not “into vinyl” at all, but it’s great I think that Naim invests into this format. And no doubt “trickle down” will soon provide more affordable options for Classic users, including the Supernait 3. Surely, Naim put a phono stage into the Nait for a reason…

Personally, I just hope the design of the Classic range remains untouched…
