New Naim Internet Radio - Feedback & Requests - Part 4

Thank you, Steve, it’s working now.
Any plans about the HD versions of the RAI channels?
Thanks again,

Andrea.

Hi @tteplitzmd

On the older profucts it can be harder to find more niche stations,. The best starting point is work out the country of the radio station.

So:

  • calm radio - the brand is in Canada:
Note - as Calm radio is about getting premium subscribers, their free channels do come and go over time.

  • Radio Caprice - Russia. We have that one fully mapped so 196 stations.

  • Radio Art - Ballads

I think this is a playlist channel based in Greece.. we have 100 channels from that network. However from looking at their website there is no channel called ‘ballads’. There is ‘Jazz Ballads’ though. Can you confirm snd we’ll add it.

The system has just under 48000 active stations in at the moment , but as discussed in this channel we do try and keep out pirate / fake and don’t auto import ‘make your own’ radio station channels that are mainly junk.

Before iRadio black-out and firmware update nightmare my playlist was mainly of Instrumental radios.
Now I am not able to find one !
at the same time it seems that the database of radios is different between Mu-su, Qb, and UnitiQ2. I am surprised that they were not able to make ONE database for all devices.
Do you have any idea where I can find those Instrumental radios, what ever country there located ? Thank you for help.

I was thinking the same thing and would help people locate stations on the older devices where search isn’t available.

Hi @Yann

We only have one database for all products, but for older products we filter out content like the Hidef lossless stations. Also, the newer products play everything, while the older products can have issues on some newer formats. We didn’t want to cripple newer products performance for the sake of products we sold 8+ years ago.

Regarding the instrumental stations, can you give more of a clue of the name of the stations? There are about 8000 music playlist stations in the system so there is plenty of choice, but need some idea what you were listening to before.

Steve

Hi @Andylu

On the HD variants of Radio RAI on older products - unlikely. When dealing with the more advanced variants of streams in HLS containers, it requires a modern version of the codec and although we have patched it to handle some cases, it’s too much effort to bring it up to latest standards, and in some cases we’ll have processing and bandwidth issues.

So short answer, no.

Hi @ncoligan

Classic FM - there are quite a few of these around the world, but I suspect you are after the UK one:

So browse to International->Europe->United Kingdom->Brands->Classic FM

Radio Paradise
The full network can be found under United States → Brands → Radio Paradise:
It’s also categorized in the California State/Region view.

As you have a Uniti Star, using the Search feature on the top right of the app is the easiest way to hunt down stations.

A few of us have reported radio drop outs or pulsing on the older devices (eg radio plays for several seconds then stops several seconds and repeats until power cycled).
I’ve been doing a bit of testing and think this applies to HLS stations or HD stations.
Since switching from Radio 4 HD to standard I’ve had no issues at all with the radio not starting or pulsing.
This is QB gen 1.
Shame, but from comments above, seems like a limitation in hardware for HLS containers.

If having problems like this, try going to a non HLS channel

I updated my Mu-so 1st Gen and it worked fine - thanks.
I can find my previous radio stations except Magic FM Montreal (https://magicfmmontreal.ca/) which I could get previously on the Mu-so. I have searched but can’t find it on the new iRadio.
Does anyone know if it is available?
Cheers Bret

Now added. See:

Could you add AFN Diego Garcia?

Thanks very much. I can find it in the list of Canada and Quebec stations. However when I try to play it nothing comes though. Sometimes the app says “Station unavailable”. It’s definitely up as I can play it in my browser and on my Squeezebox. Cheers, Bret

A post was split to a new topic: How can I stream from my internal server on to my UnitiQute using Naim Internet Radio?

I’m very happy with the new service. A few of my national radio stations (NPO) went to 320kbs. Very nice!

I have a Mu-So Qb gen 1. I just installed the latest firmware 2.0.10 and the latest Naim&Focal 7.3 app for iPad. None of the 22 Canadian ICI Musique stations and 22 ICI Premiere stations are available on Naim iRadio. My favorites are the Montreal ones. They also haven’t worked on vTuner for several months. When will they be available?

Hi @AlainG,

The full ICI network are already in the system under Canada.

Browse to Canada. Observe the National broadcaster has a dedicated section, CBC/ICI:

Browse inside there and they’re all categorised:

Update - after re-reading your message I’m now wondering if you mean that you have found them, but none of them play on your Muso Qb1. Can you clarify. The CBC/ICI network switched to HLS streams a while ago and this maybe a problem for these older products.

Hi @castalla

re: AFN Diego Garcia

Do you know of a website that is transmitting this?

I found a few directory radio sites that claimed to have it, but they all had an incorrect stream (they were playing Radio Caroline, UK)

Overall, if you can find it on the net and point us in that direction, we’ll aim to add it.

I’ll do some research. Thanks.
