New Naim Internet Radio - Feedback & Requests - Part 5

A repeat of the opening post from Part 1:

At Naim, we understand that while many people use our products to get the best listening experience from their own music collection; sometimes you simply want to put the radio on and let someone else choose. We’ve offered a comprehensive internet radio solution for some time, and we are now delighted to announce the launch of our own in-house internet radio solution.

In a collaboration between XPeri and our team here at Naim, we have brought the internet radio server in-house to be maintained internally, as opposed to relying on a third party as with the previous server. This will improve reliability and has opened up a host of improvements to the service, detailed below:

- A selection of over 45,000 stations worldwide
- Advanced metadata feeds for artist, track and album info on many stations
- Focus on high-quality audio streams
- Improved station categorisation
- High-resolution station artwork
- Automated station scanning
- Station podcasts (where available)

The Focal & Naim app will identify any favourites and presets that should be resaved to use the new server.

These updates are not only improving the internet radio server but improving our streaming capabilities too. TIDAL’s new 24-bit, 192 kHz streaming tier, TIDAL Max, is now available through both the Focal & Naim app and TIDAL Connect.

In a significant update for our Chinese customers, Q-Play is now supported in Naim products. QQ Music is one of the largest music streaming services in China, and users are now able to select their Naim streamer from within the QQ Music app for a seamless listening experience.

Regards,
Naim Audio – Software team

With the launch of Naim’s new Internet Radio service (see above), I’ve created this dedicated thread where information can be posted relating to the service and members can post feedback and requests for the team at HQ.

Examples of how this thread can be used;

  • Announcements on key new stations / station rebrands etc. For example recently a big change in UK for Bauer Media and Global. Scala radio rebrands to Magic Classical and about 16 other new or existing stations changing.
  • request stations that we don’t have.
  • issues with a station. Eg, wrong meta / won’t play and so on.
  • notifications of any downtime on either our system in a given region, or a dependent system like the xperi live radio meta.
  • Search issues. We have the station but its hard to find as needs more tags.
  • feature requests / feedback / general radio gossip

Please ensure posts here are ONLY feedback re. the new Naim radio service. Thanks.

Hi Steve,I’m from Greece and I want you to add a specific internet station, it seems it can’t be found in the existing ones…
The station called SALT, it plays cosmopolitan music

Thanks in advance, have a nice weekend!

Hi,

Sure. Now added.

Good morning Steve, thank you!

A post was split to a new topic: Updating a NAC-N272

Hello all.

Lucky owner of ND5XS.
Migrated to 7.9.40 for VTUNER outage and for sure, my app is 7.4, lastest version.

I recreated my radio list because VTUNER not working anymore.
No issue.
I found almost in NAIM list all I needed.

1 is missing and I liked it : Radio Flemme, based in France.
Is there any chance Naim will add it in his official list ? :innocent:

Nevertheless, I don’t find any more the “added station” in my menu.
For sure, the “added stations” I have registered in the station list is still OK and working fine but I cannot add any specific radio because this menu seems to not exist anymore …

I can’t login to the website to maintain this list because it was in VTUNER, I understand.

But, in the future, how will it be possible to add manually (by URL) any station in my list of radios ?
This is what I wanted to do for Radio Flemme :grimacing:

I thanks you in advance for your answers on this important topic.
Adding a radio by URL direct was so usefull …

Thanks again,
Bertrand

hi after last firmware update on my MUSO 1st generation, it doesn’t set the right time to my locazion. I show only GMT TIME, but I’m in Italy ( GMT+1)
thanks

Hi,

Re: Radio Flemme

Now added. Their website doesn’t work anymore, but they have an active Facebook page.

I couldn’t find any better artwork for the station (it’s low-res). If you know of any better let us know.

Best

Steve

Hi @Stevesky

I can’t find WHYY (Philadelphia) in the npr public broadcasters list. This station carries the Fresh Air podcast.

Is it possible to add?

Thank you.

Hello Steve.
Many thanks for quick update ! I really appreciate !

I will add this station by this evening.

Unfortunately, I don’t have better icon for you … :frowning:

One thing : in my App, I don’t have the logo of the stations, it’s only grey icon.
Is there a way to add ?
None of my 38 stations have icon in the app …

Anyway, big hanks again !
Bertrand

Hi @mook

We have WHYY, but not their podcasts. Have hopefully added them. Have also added to WHYY to the public broadcaster view (data entry error resulted it not showing there).

Best

Steve

Hi @Bertrand

RE: No station artwork on the radio presets view.

Based on the product you are using, it doesn’t supply artwork for presets. The artwork will only show when browsing the directory or when viewing the Now Playing screen. On newer products they show the preset/favs in the iOS or Android apps.

Steve

Clear answer !

OK, I understand.

Many thanks Steve !

Bertrand

Excellent - thanks so much @Stevesky
Now visible and podcasts are present!

Dear Steve.

I successfully registered Radio Flemme in my ND5XS.
Many thanks again !

I agree with you :
Artwork is displayed in the “Now Playing” section and in the radio list (when searching for a radio). But not in my registered radio station list.
I understand it comes from ND5XS, no issue at all. Thanks for clarification. :+1:

Artwork is also displayed when playing MP3 through my UpNp server.
Great.

1 remark :
1 consider the time the app needs (or the ND5XS needs) for sorting all stations while searching when selecting “brows all” is very long.
I selected Radio Flemme and app answers an empty list.
After a while (means, after all french radios have been sorted), I found Radio Flemme.
So I understood I need to wait a little while app (or ND5XS) is sorting the list …
One more time, no issue at all, I understand.

1 suggestion :
If you remember, in 2022, a Belgian guy, Kurt, raised a topic “Native Flac via iRadio?” for old stremers (gen 1). My situation. Listen to High Res stations …

I added all Naim Radios, all Radio Paradise Radios and Hi On Line Radio from his list in my “Added stations” at that time and it worked so fine.
Some of them where saved as favorites in my Naim and are still available.
Some others I did not save as favorites and I can’t listen to them in FLAC anymore … too bad. :sob:

Enclosed his list of WAV radios : http://158.101.168.33:9001/fwp/stations

Would you please be so kind to consider to add these radios in the list ?

Kurt did a very reliable and fantastic job for allowing old generation streamers to listen to WAV radios that it should be so sad not being able to hear anymore …

I still have available all Naim in Flac (Naim radio, Naim Jazz & Naim Classical), Hi on Line Radio, Radio Paradise Rock because I saved as favorites.
But I can’t hear Radio Paradise Mellow, Radio Paradise Eclectic and Radio Paradise Main in FLAC anymore because I did not saved them as favorites.
I choose “added station” when needed, but this is, by definition, not available anymore due to VTumer ending service with Naim.

What do you think about my proposal ?

Many thanks in advance,
Bertrand

Hi Bertrand,

ref: the wav encoding online radio proxy

As this will only be reliable near Germany, it shouldn’t really be in the directory as it will get unreliable the further away from Germany (unless there are lots of these proxies around the world). Also it will be bypassing station Geolocation blocking rules so countries that stations are not allowed to broadcast to will be able to receive those streams . As a business we can’t be really promoting such things.

Apologies

Steve
