New Rega ND9 MM cartridge

Makes sense. P8 second hand would be great too.

I think the Ania is on the way out. ND9 is more expensive. If I saw Ania stock being cleared I could be tempted. I’m a Rega fan but my loyalty wouldn’t have stretched to me getting an Elys or an Exact. The Goldring E3 is better than the Elys and it’s half the price. Happily Rega have sorted their MM line up out but the Ania and Ania Pro are not tired MCs from that old era. All the Regas made in house are now top notch. Use

Yes the E3 is excellent. I bought an E4 stylus for it, if it is better it is not by very much imho.

I was never a fan of Bias/Elys, but Exact was ok, rather special, I love the new Nd range much more.

Goldring E-series seem to be rebranded AT VM95 cartridge, made with slight spec changes.

If I had to guess I’d say the P2 is going to be replaced. The green grade P1 has a fair amount of P2 plinths in the mix and if you get lucky then you have had a result. Actually you can get a P3 plinth because the Green P3 only comes with the HPL skin. This all makes the P2 feel unloved. They could put that HPL on a new 2. It would elevate the sound whilst not impacting on P3 sales.

I have a Goldring E3 and E4. When I bought the E3 I also had a AT 95E. The Goldring was miles better even though closely related. Not heard the VM version.

Interesting thanks

I have just pre ordered the Nd9 for my P8. A bit cheaper than I thought it was going to be. I will have to try and find a new home for my 16 month old Nd7 with about 268 hrs on it. If I cannot move it on I will keep it for a back up.

The delivery is scheduled for when and at what price? I am waiting for your report against the ND7!

My Pre order is hopefully for one of the first batches arriving in Australia soon. I had budgeted for around $1600-$1700 Au Dollars before pre orders went live here. My actual order is for $1499 Au. Really looking forward to comparing the two.

Has anyone done a ND5/7/9 comparison yet? Or too early?

I know this isn’t what you mean, but I think they have all been reviewed individually on The Ear site.

We just need someone on the forum to tell us which one is:

“Night and day” better than the other, or

has an “inky black noise floor”

Or some other hi-fi superlative we love to throw around.

Yes, everyone’s new purchases are always ‘night & day’ better and no comparison to the older one! :joy:

I think people need to justify their purchases and completely forget about diminishing returns!

As long as they’re happy.

Merry Christmas everyone :christmas_tree:

I sense you are attracted to the Neodymium offerings :-)))

@WolF

I would be very interested in your review.

I have a P8 with an Aphetta MC and I’d be interested to know how the ND9 performs in comparison.

Lol. Are you sure it wasn’t 269?

I hear optimum sound is achieved at 271 hours.

After that, performance declines very quickly……

At the same time, I don’t see the point in buying and keeping a product that is inferior to the one it replaces…
