Ordering wait time

+3 on keeping XPS DR for the NDX 2. I found it to be quite an uplift when I added it to my system.

Basically my system is similar to your system: XPS DR > NDX 2 > HiCap DR > NAC 282 > NAP 250 DR (full system can be seen in my profile)

Yes, I’d agree with the other advice to keep the XPSDR if you can. I had 272/XPS/250 and loved it, but once I heard the difference a great front end made, I was hooked and had to have a ND555. I’ve now got the ND555 fronting a 282/HiCap DR and it’s great fun. I’d prioritise the XPSDR over that second HiCap, but hopefully you can listen to the options and make your own choice.

That’s great about the XPS! I’m sure you’ll be happy when that NDX2 eventually arrives.

I have two pair of speakers currently.

ProAc D30RS and ATC SCM 7.

Both work well with my system, my room and my ears… Speakers are always best to demo at a dealer and at home if possible.

If you use search and type in 282/250 you will have a response of 50+ results. So there is information/opinions that can be found within the forum.

Thanks - will investigate - once the NDX2 arrives and is settled down. J

Good boy.

It’s not just specialised parts like chips. More mundane basic components are bottlenecked too. For example, I ordered a replacement Talema transformer for repairing some other bit of kit. A very commoditised and standard component found in thousands of products. Order went in Jan. The Jan shipment from Talema never arrived at the distributor. Pushed out to Feb 4th. Never arrived. Now the distributor is quoting “June if you are really lucky. None are shipping out of the factory right now.

Ergo, the scope for potential delays is broad. Naim, like any manufacturer may struggle with sourcing any number of parts now or in the near future.

Walking around the showroom of a major home appliance retailer on the weekend. Panasonic, Toshiba, Hitachi, Sharp etc were all touting their new models of washing machine. Except the showroom floor was just cardboard cut outs. The policy “Pay now. Take delivery… someday”. Oddly enough all the Chinese brands had products in stock. Nothing suspicious about that at all :grimacing:

On a more positive note. I ordered an NDX2 in early December and I picked it up today. Listening to it right now. I forgot to ask my dealer if the unit I picked was specifically the one ordered for me, or one that he had previously ordered for stock.
Waiting for NAC552 now, I’m afraid that will be a while still.

I have just been quoted a delivery of 16 weeks for a ND5 XS 2 from Naim. Is this normal for Naim in UK??

Welcome to the forum Bears-away.

The short answer is that in the current climate, with very high demand and some critical components being in very short supply with extremely long lead times (especially certain key chipsets), 16 weeks is the norm.

I’ve moved your post to this thread - here you can read all about it…

Sixteen weeks - you’re having a laugh!!! 8 months and counting now :weary::weary::weary:

When it gets to a whole year do I get a certificate? Or maybe a free NDX2 upgrade?

I would love to stay with a Naim system but if it will be more than 16 weeks I will seriously have to look at other options that can deliver in a reasonable timeframe. I wonder if Naim have stats on lost sales/cancellations due to lead-times issues!

Agreed, it seems to be across the board. A few days ago I thought I would treat myself to a bottle of decent Scotch whiskey, from a small specialist shop. I rattled off a few names, none were available, I then asked about Lagavullin and was told that they have had problems sourcing glass !! A few days later I tried to buy a new Z series Nikon zoom lens. None available at even the specialist dealers, and no information on likely delivery time. Crazy times.

Maybe Naim does not put too many resources to produce amps and players anymore, but all resources go to all-in-one systems?

This is not something only Naim struggles with, you see this also happening in the car industry and many others … we are so used to buy something and receive it within a couple of days …

I’m waiting for my new racing bike for 5 months now …

I purchased a demo 552dr from a dealer half way across the country (I’m in USA). Waited 10 days to get it.
I purchased a preloved 500 dr from a fellow forum member. I called him up and he drove 20min and delivered it personally to my home. No wait and immediate gratification!
What ordering wait time problem?

Sorry, I’m being rude….couldn’t resist. The advantages of buying second hand or demo-no major wait time and save $
